My Need To Fly

Phoenix

Google Image

I have written this for dVerse a bit late and realize it won’t be posted there now as the link has expired but I was taken by Gretchen’s idea of music and wanted to put this out there in any case.   Please listen to this song that has given me such pleasure to listen to and I hope you will see how it impacted my writing here. Thank You!

do you live in the shadows
as i have done so wanting
to please who would
guide but from

a distance above as
you walk a tightrope
i did many years for
i always hoped

acceptance would come
in palpable ways to
amaze me and show me
my path was not grey

ambivalence filled with
the need to sleep when a
well meant prayer struck
fear ‘my soul to keep’

where the days took me
on a journey of my
own making and never
would i be forsaking

my need to fly to the
heavens above to create
all that my heart dreamed
of for it is sad it came

when she left this earth
to finally release me to
soar unburdened as i
move ever forward

my muse now nurtures
the wordsmith that was
once all but broken
the letters form words

that spill forth in
treasure to give my soul
long-awaited pleasure
conjuring melodies

seldom heard a display of
fireworks in rainbow
colors i walk my path in
awe and it has occurred

that life is still here and
i have not missed it as
i dance with it now as
i live in the moment

Chilli Pepper Lights

Altered Google Image

the first time i saw you
i wondered
how anyone could be
so animated
a mysterious possibility

i had needed a roommate
to share the expense
to balance the cost
to help make sense

of coming thousands
of miles to a place
not familiar
faces all blending
never congenial

i walked a different land
streets unknown
nothing planned
to meet you

bubbling over with
so much enthusiasm
i gingerly broached it
a tremulous chasm

we walked into your
loving abode
art panoramic
stories untold

chilli pepper lights
hung enchantingly so
about the ceiling
embracing my soul

the first time i saw you
i wondered
how anyone could be
so animated
a mysterious possibility

Just to say, that some roommates do work out.  I only spent a year at seminary and have been friends ever since with Paula, an amazing artist and a person with heart. Here’s to you, Paula!

Spirit Play

Altered Google Image

my spirit plays amongst
microscopic particles
of sand sparkling
left clean

as the salty ocean water
leaves trails
of foam behind

an intruder…
but nought as it
takes flight drifting
in and out of wildflowers

as a honey bee
gathering
golden pollen
from within each
petaled wonder

taking with it the
beauty of fragrance
it once again rises

to find healing in
the sunrays
cleansing in
the raindrops

letting colors of
the rainbow
penetrate
to become one
with its’ soul

to wrap itself
in grandeur of
nature to embody
it all

my spirit shares a
moment in time
cascading
down waterfalls

smoothing pebbles
in a stream
catching glimpses and
reflections
its’ life
embodiment of mine

Elemental

elemental as fire and ice
my soul within me
gives rise to crimson
ashen lithe but strong
to cool as rivers swift
and strong allowing my
Spirit to rise in song

Time’s Door

the coastal terrain whizzes
by in my effort to catch up
to claim time as my ally

drift wood laden shores
with rocky strewn beaches
such alien distant creatures

my car picks up speed on
straightaways, slowing down
on curves the car sways

when will i reach destination
unknown a room with a key
time once again has flown

walking on the sandy beach
salt spray, shells and stone
i no longer feel alone

my thoughts weave about the
elusive tide of time’s door
plying soul and spirit’s core

reaching inside to pull my
heart throughout times’ eternity
journey’s calm is wrought

as though the sea winds have
wrapped me within their embrace
helping me again to face

a world where the essence of
time flies capturing unnoticed
years unfurling tinctured rhyme

Mockingbird’s Yearning

wee small hours of the morning
call to me with the voice of
the Mockingbird’s yearning

calling out lyrics and notes
not his own but achingly
captured in his own throat

darkness hiding winged form
musical song simply rising
listen to quell the storm

awaken your soul come with me
symphony, sonnet now mine
taken to sing so lovingly

there he is with stolen song
trilling with great pleasure
beckoning me to sing along

creating light in the night sky
patterned prism colors rising
rapt audience of one sublime

longing for a song of his own
to widen the net of listeners
as though his voice has flown

but he knows only other’s muse
so claim them he does one by one
singing again without any ruse

wee small hours of the morning
call to me with the voice of
the Mockingbird’s yearning

During my visit here in sunny Southern California I was awakened to the sound of this beautiful creature’s song like no other. The Mocking Bird has no song of his own but when he sings all the songs of all the other birds it is as though a resonate sound of an orchestra has filled the morning hours.

Lavender Falls

dreams of strawberry
fragrant touch
lifting spirit my
soul arousing

sent careening
down as much on
lavender falls upon
misty meaning

i dream of strawberry
fragrant touch
lilac petals tender
essence streaming

Part of My Heart and Soul

Why do I worry about you so
because you are part of
my heart and soul

your soft baby skin
your twinkling brown eyes
caused me to smile and
then to sigh

from the moment they laid
you in my arms I was
captivated by your charms                             Image by Anne Geddes

to know I was chosen to ride
with you on life’s journey
in all that you do now
a woman with children too

so why do I worry and
love you so because
you are part of my
heart and soul
