Bluejay Indignation

They play tag with one another
running along the fence and up
over the stones in the yard to
climb up the nut tree in hopes
a bounty to be found as they
hang upside down by clawed feet
picking each nut to peel back
green busily to drop earthbound
unbeknownst of company watching

The Bluejay watches unamused in
seeing two squirrels climbing up
into his tree and taking his nuts
to drop them to the ground so in
righteous indignation he responds
telling them loudly they don’t
belong here running up and down
making such a mess of things but
they ignore his loud proclaiming

Sleep Embrace

Sleep come take her to
hold in your arms like
a passionate love who
will wipe away the tears
of pain and despair to
wrap around her a warm
embrace to quell her
trembling there to frame
her face with her long
dark hair as a portrait
of innocence reposing so
now sleep come take her

Dedicated to all mothers or those who have loved ones they have watched in pain when they are not well and want and hope only that it cease so that a peaceful sleep can overcome.

Ignited Images

Memories best left
forgotten shredded
and filed in my mind
ignited by a simple
piece of mail flooding
the late night screen
of images remembered

Sometimes it is better to remember and move on even  though the memory remains. In remembering we will learn from our experiences in life. This is only my own observation as a single piece of mail I received caused me to re-examine a memory of my past and gave rise to this post.

Silvery Threads

Artistry tattooed beneath my
skin creating a world unknown
unseen is a life portrayed in
dimensional sleds pulling my
alter ego of silvery threads
my skin a canvas of shadows
forming pieces of me creating
illusions of the deepest depths
swirling seas transforming

Who is a person, really, beneath the surface? Do we simply look at the outside or intuit the beauty of the inside.  A person is layers upon layers and to really be able to know someone look beyond and beneath the outside.  There is much to the saying, “Do not judge a book by its’ cover.”

Something Good

Something good is happening here
like the ocean lapping at the sand
a watery tongue gently licking the
salty shores as greedy as it can

Something good is happening here
like waterfalls thundering down on
rocks beating them smooth beneath
misty spray filtered sunlight found

Something good is happening here
like chocolate melting on fingers
before the wonder of cacao can be
tasted in a heat that always lingers

Something good is happening here
as the sun sets lo an evening sky
song birds sing an Alleluia chorus
tree branches shivering with a sigh

Ripe Cacao on this tree really caught my eye and when I read further of all the wonderful seeds inside that our own chocolate products are made from it was simply a wonder.

Prisms

Prisms of color are touching the
corners of my mind with images of
ferry rides across unsettling
oceans of water a transport to
buildings of monumental size and
walls trimmed out with barbed wire
uninviting and cold beckoning with
unseeing eyes holding lives unable
to live, unable to speak their
truth with no one to listen but
unmoving walls devoid of a heart
bereft of a soul because when you
enter your life is no longer your
own and your spirit apart alone

Tempura Sunset

Variegated hues of blues
spilling out across the
sky with yellows, oranges
and shades of watercolor
pinks following closely
behind painting the sunset
as tempura colors splashed
with bluest ice atop in a
transformation of edible
nature ready to be consumed
with eyes a delicious dessert
to end a busy Summer day

Another busy day and with a nearly complete kitchen remodel I now also have a nearly complete new small deck, where a once rickity old wooden porch once was. I glanced out of the window and saw an awesome sunset. This comes somewhat close to the colors I saw…not my sunset but wonderful just as mine was.
