Red roses even in
my dreams still
belong to you as
fragrant as though
you are still
here beside me
red roses for you

I cannot see a rose of any color, but especially red roses, and not
think of you. In memory of mother, gone but never forgotten.

She remembers freedom
like a forest trail
following her
beckoning

tree branches tender
caressing
showing her
heart’s desire as
budding leaves
green but
not with envy

her muse following
not as a shadow
but as one
privy to life’s
secrets

wound ’round about
as vines clinging
to tree trunks
laden but with
no regrets

dancing on fallen
leaves
a gift of her
imagination

City Hibernation

They emerge slowly
like hibernating bears
coming forth after a
storm hesitating
watching
moving about

They begin to shovel
snow and to scrape
icy automobiles in
hopes of venturing
out but they
remain unmoved

One gentleman wields a
camera focusing on
his laurel hedge
photographing
something
then disappears

Children begin to sled
throwing snowballs
laughing the cold
forgotten then
darkness
all is quiet
