The day opens in darkness
clouds and rain the
only companions…still
the lightness of morning
cannot be turned away
through the smattering
of untold numbers
of raindrops
on my window
I see it coming
much like the chrysalis
that holds the butterfly
safe and secure
or is its’ beauty and freedom
and a need to ‘be’
trapped
is the chrysalis its’ prison
will it wake to the
darkness of day
or will it see light
seeping through
as it touches the raindrops
in its’ path
leaving them in its’ wake
as it breaks free
I see it coming
the butterfly will become aware
as the chrysalis
falls away
like the light that filters through
drying the raindrops
on the window
so the butterfly’s wings
will dry and spread
then the butterfly will finally
take flight
will be free
I see it coming

Thank you, Betty. I have always liked adding something to what I write. I love art and it was a challenge to do it on the computer but gave it a try. Early on it was not very good but taking a photo and changing it, seems to work fairly well. Hope you are staying warm. Very cold nights here and I’m sure your way as well.

I think you’re very gifted enhancing the photos and artwork. (Certainly better than I would do!)
Hope you’re staying warm as well, Renee. At least it has finally warmed up a bit this weekend. Sunshine feels so good! (Wearing a sweater of course. 🙂)

Thank you Sue. I connect so much to what happens in nature. I always have. Happy Halloween to you as well. I am staying in my room and listening to my grand babies and other children having their fun. I remember happy times when mine were little. xoxo

Beautifully penned. You could not have described the process of the chrysalis turning into a butterfly. I want to be this butterfly that “will finally/ take flight/ will be free”. You lift my spirits today that I feel so sad, sad, sad… for what is happening to my country. I know this is nothing compared to what is happening in many world contries But still …For me October 1, 2017 and October 14, 2019, will mark and are marking turning points in the history of Catalonia and Spain. How can the Spanish state send the police to beat up peaceful protesters, prosecute people for their ideas, imprison them and sentence innocent people to jail. In just one week, four people have lost one eye, each person, because of rubber balls shot by the Spanish police. I never thought this would happen. I believed Spain was a solid democracy, but no, the regime is turning more authoritarian each day. I wish I could escape and live somewhere else. But we need to lose our fear and keep up going out to the streets protesting peaceably. Our Catalan-Spanish conflict will never be resolved judicialising a political issue. We need international help, mediation. Please, watch this video and make it known to every one. We are not violent, we are not terrorists. It is the Spanish state that is constantly fabricating fake news. This is the truth: https://youtu.be/c04kj0nX688

Thank you and for keeping me informed of the difficulties Catalonia is having with the Spanish government. I do know that political propaganda happens in most countries that are having such a problem with the government as your people are having. I also believe that if you protest it should be peaceful in any case so in that regard keep on the same path. I do know that most people in other countries that are keeping track of what is happening in Spain….at least those of us like myself…are well aware that your people in Catalonia are not terrorists nor violent. Please know there are so many that stand with you even though not physically able to do so. The truth always prevails and I believe it will. When I could not say, but it will. Take care.

Thank you so much for your understanding and comforting words, Renee. I am sure we will keep on the peaceful path. I can’t stand violence anywhere in the world. It is just that when it touches you that close it is like a magnifying glass, especially if you have lived apparently “too well” for years. I thought Spain was more democratic than it really is. The world I believed in crumbled down on October 1, 2017. Since then I haven’t fully recovered, but, yes, we need to be strong, resist and persist in our nonviolent struggle despite some human costs. You too take care. It is always a pleasure to come back to your beautiful poetry and artworks when I have the time.

You are always in my thoughts. l hope the Catalonian people will be able to see the freedom they seek and will not always have to struggle. I believe Spain has sought to be more of a Democratic country but has not found a way that is inclusive of all the people living there and is not accepting in offering freedom for those who seek it such as your people have been doing for such a long time now. Even the United States has its’ ups and downs in its’ efforts to sustain a Democratic government. I am not a political person and believe that political arenas will always be flawed as people are innately flawed. I always hope for a ‘happy medium’ where there is a path of compromises rather than conflict but I have yet to see that in my lifetime. But I believe there is always hope. Take care.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words, Renee. Yes, there is always hope, also in the United States, everywhere. We can only sustain reasonably Democratic governments through nonviolent struggles which often imply civil disobedience. You too take care.
