Bits of Wisdom

Even as the common brown squirrel
senses that temperate weather
is at hand

digging in earnest for small nuts
he has hidden, his eyes
are eager with expectation
at the treasure
he will find

I now forage for bits of wisdom
left timely for my discovery
still visible in the space
of invisible footsteps
laid before me

noticing that as the sun’s rays
enhance the squirrel’s
brown coat of fur
a brilliant bright spot
against green

wisdom comes from all venues
even the most young
at heart

counseling me to heed not
others’ paths in life
for mine is my own
uniquely woven

so that I find the bits of wisdom
I seek are within, not without
but in the mirror
of my soul

the need to shine brightly
to touch every moment
that is only
within my
own grasp

    1. Thank you. My oldest daughter, middle aged now, has such a young heart but so much wisdom. She has a chronic illness but always sees the bright side of everything. Her home is where I will move the end of March now. She inspired me to write this. I have many who are my muse.

      1. You are welcome. I always enjoy your poetry and artworks. How good to be surrounded by people, like your oldest daughter, who bring optimism in life. I so love the image with the squirrel and the sun’s rays. Also, this part has touched me, so full of beauty and wise words:

        “wisdom comes from all venues
        even the most young
        at heart

        counseling me to heed not
        others’ paths in life
        for mine is my own
        uniquely woven”

        Really, great great work!

    1. Thank you. I felt it quite captured what I wrote. I began my site in such a way and have continued to pull in something in the way of a photo or art to accompany. This photo says so much. I simply add my own touches.

      1. I also love the whole background of your blog. It looks like the palette of a painter with all the colors, so beautifully put together, where everything seeks expression and perfect balance. The two birds are also powerful, symbolising the flight of the soul and freedom. I so relate to this and especially now that I am following the absurd trial to our Catalan political prisoners, all of them peaceful leaders that will have to spend years in prison and far from their families. It is all cruel and nonsensical. Why do we as humans always end up with situations of power abuse and oppression instead of spreading love such as the wings of your birds do? I was also thinking about my mother who is getting older and often feels lonely since my father died, almost four years ago. I doubt she will find another love partner. This is such a difficult issue. For instance, what are the chances of two people who are so different in age, to fullfil a love relationship? Age difference is also an issue. I recommend you my friend Mario’s last post on this. Like you, he is an excellent writer: https://savioni.wordpress.com/2019/02/12/pickles-and-tarts-chapter-6/

      2. I appreciate your kind words always and your candor about the struggle for the Catalan people. Politics will always be such and in many countries opposition, unfortunately, is dealt with in harsh blows and unjust manners. I do hope that change will come soon enough so that these people now being unfairly judged will not be apart from family too long. I will, of course, look again at Savioni’s site. He does some very good writing and I thank you for always giving me a link.

      3. I am afraid our political prisoners will spend from 6-8 years imprisoned until they are absolved by the European Human Rights Court. Meanwhile 5 men raped a girl, filmed what they did and are not imprisoned awaiting a mild trial. You call this justice? This is an authoritarian regime. Tomorrow I am joining Catalonia’s general strike and going to non-violent rallies again. Thank you so much for supporting Mario’s work. Indeed he is an excellent writer like you. This thing with wordpress keeps me a bit distracted from the whole political situation. Thank you so much for being there.

    1. Thank you Betty. I often times see the smallest of connections between life and nature but really, even the smallest can be the greatest in terms of what we look for. I look for sun every day now and am hoping for it before I move. 🙂

      1. Hope you enjoyed today’s sunshine – though it was still so COLD! Hopefully by the time you move it’ll warm up. I know how difficult moving is. (After we sold our house, we rented, and moved 4 times in 3-1/2 years before landing here. It was stressful and exhausting, the frequent changes. So I empathize with you and hope everything goes smoothly. Please keep me posted on how it goes.)

      2. Sounds a lot like myself. I had to sell my house in 2015 after heart surgery and having to retire. Began renting again and moved three times since and now the 4th to my daughter’s after realizing being on SSI and a minimal amount of retirement wasn’t going to do it with the increase in rent. I certainly will let you know how it goes. Did you end up buying again? Just curious. Yes so very COLD today but I looked ahead and although March will be rain off and on, April is suppose to bring much warmer temps…if one can call low 60s warmer…Lol. Take care.

      3. Yes, we did buy again but we had to leave the Seattle area in order to afford something. That was when housing costs were rising fast. We like it here, but I do miss my old stomping grounds.
Low 60’s sounds nice compared to these low 40’s. And freezing right now.
You take care also – and try to stay warm!

    1. Thank you Bela and we always hope for more understanding but in fact, it has taken me a lifetime to arrive here so in reality, understanding may ultimately take more time than we would like. I have come to ‘understand’ that human nature will always be a complex mixed bag of pros and cons….probably more cons than not. Hope you are well. Aloha!

      1. Well stated, Renee. Yes, aging does bring to light certain perceptions that deepen our understanding of life, itself. What it is to be human, which is not always comfortable to explore, once we delve beneath the surface of even our own darkest nature. And we know what that bodes, when compared to those who never take time to reflect or to care as we do about many things.

Sending you peace and love for a pleasant week. Aloha ❤
