Second Story Longing

Life beside a warp of cement
tucked into rain soaked ground
whilst seeing grass close enough
to touch thru an open window

is not for the faint of heart
nor a feint move made in earnest
to deceive or hide

for I miss second story windows
open to light and breeze
a view of a well traversed bridge
seen as a ribbon slightly
in the distance

with wavy colors of green slicing
thru deepest aegean blue
waters as beneath they flow

as wind tunnel force winds
creating frothy waves
upon its’ surface
create lapping at
sandy rocky shores

I imagine myself there
in the sun

    1. Thank you Betty. The house I had to sell after my open heart surgery had an upstairs with a wonderful view. The apartment is ok but is recessed into the ground and really not to my liking that way. But next year I will move out with my daughter by Yelm close to Lacey and hopefully my tiny structure I intend on having built will be a good thing for me. Hope you are well.

      1. Views are important to me also, Renee. I know the feeling of being in a ground floor apartment (half buried, not enough light). The house we’re in now is just one story (since I can’t climb stairs anymore) and I really miss the home we had north of Seattle. (A split level, with lots of large windows.) This house has a view of a hillside with trees, but only out one small window. The other windows are okay, but just views of other houses. I hope you’ll be moving to a place you love that nourishes your soul. It’s not about size, but about windows and light and trees.
Hope you’re well too. (Sunshine today helps. 🙂 )

  1. Beautifully penned as always, Renee. Your descriptions of nature in this poem are very vivid and lovely, especially connected with the voice of the poem’s feelings and thoughts. I just learnt you had heart surgery. Hope you are fine. Our houses and apartments need nature surrounding us. I also like to feel the green around me, birds, the breeze… Your picture is very nice too.

    1. I had emergent open heart surgery in 2015 to replace my mitral heart valve with a synthetic one. It had been damaged my bacteria which was in my entire body running through my blood stream so I am grateful to still be here as I nearly was not. Hence, I have met you and many other people in the last three years since. Thank you for your gracious comment regarding my poem.

    1. Thank you Sue. Yes, I do not miss the upkeep of the house I once owned as I certainly did much of it along with my youngest daughter and son-in-law but I do miss the views it had. Love to you as well, my friend.
