***Flight of A Fashion***

She traveled north
with her husband she chose
based on society’s mores
his decision accepted based
on her need to fly

trading asphalt and concrete
for a similar landscape
peppered with evergreens

leaving behind her self
melting in the heat of day
preparing for a rain cleansing
her of tainted memories

she traded her self-identity
with the prospect of years
rearing children alone
in unfamiliar landscape
needing to fly

always tethered & wings clipped
by a ritual of custom
her wings a rainbow

coloring her inside and out
brightened by the sun
dampened by the rain
her self conflicted interests

birds fly home to roost and nest
innate to their very being
so each time she returned to
her place of birth she
fell into memories

coming to know her colored feathers
of self would always remain
inside no matter
the need to fly

    1. Jamie, For some reason your recent post of last weeks’ Wed writing prompt responses came up in my comments without your picture and asked me to approve…which I did. Thought I would let you know as nothing has changed on my site but perhaps? something on yours? Be well.

  1. This is excellent Renee… So many give up their identities with wings clipped to be the one who brings up children… I could feel those wings in their urge to fly .. Loved the Parrot 🙂

I hope dear Renee you are having an excellent week.. And you are well my friend.. Sending Mega Hugs your way.. Lots of Love .. Sue ❤

    1. Thank you and yes I did, myself. I love all of my children but made choices based on what was deemed acceptable for a woman to do at the time. But now at long last I am endeavoring to do what I wanted to do then. A bit difficult to switch gears although I have been divorced now for many years. Always a time, though, so that is my thought. Be well and love to you.
