Humanity, family, individuals, you & me
all connected by a universal family tree
black and white photo of a married couple
telling me a story of heritage and love
Migrated to Mexico, then on to freedom
real or imagined, a family in my homeland
their names Fabian and Julia Naegelin
met in a far away providence Alsace Lorraine
They will never see what the world is now
a world always replanted in fields fallow
with lives lost justified on shifting ideals
none of which is tangible, none of which is real
The horrors of war, of misguided youth
taking lives of those whom they should sleuth
of their histories that brought them close
that they really know each others’ shores
Humanity, family, individuals, you & me
all connected by a universal family tree

telling me a story of heritage and love

The image below is a restaurant in Lyon, France but could be a restaurant anywhere in the world. Recently there were lives lost in France for ideals that are, tragically, only that…ideals. It is important to have ideals but they should not be taken to the extreme causing what is really important to be lost to us all.The reality of people’s lives lost and how really, we are all connected to each other in a genetically complex puzzle that will never be fully known, and that those genetics means we are all connected intrinsically to one another gave rise to this prose. My heart goes out to all those whose families are touched by this and many other real events that happen in our lives as life continues to move forward.

Isn’t it such a shame that we even have to write tributes such as yours to innocent lives taken by those whose ideals have turned radical. It’s so senseless. Beautiful and heartfelt, Renee.

It is and truthfully I might have eventually but given where they came from and the photo I look at daily I knew I needed to tell a bit of their story. Thank You.

Of course, your grandparent’s heritage and that photo of them gave rise to your tribute to them and how we all are connected whether we want to admit it or not. I hope you have a Merry Christmas, Renee, and maybe even have a visit with your newest member of the family. xoxo

Yes I am going to have time with my ‘bundle’, as I call her, and hold her as much as I can. She sleeps a lot still as she is new. Have a wonderful holiday season and are still spending time with your beautiful granddaughter. xoxo

Thank You. I have this very old photo of my great grandparents in the wedding best in my living room. Everyone that sees it wants to know who the couple is. I never knew them but know that my grandfather was a baker and cook and my grandmother played the guitar. I wish you and yours a wonderful holiday and a very best 2016.

I only know that we are all connected in ways not everyone understands or knows for if they did there perhaps would not be such tributes to be had. But reality bears more truth of humanity than we would like to acknowledge. We always do have hope. Thank You. My best to your and yours during the holidays and in 2016. xoxo
