fog settles in like an old friend
like a shoe well worn..comfortable
like a thick moist, milky grey blanket
covering everything in chilly dampness
the tug boats push slowly forward
trying to slice open a path
using their lights as knives
moving painstakingly
the mist begrudging them passage
the tugs speak to each other
in the octaves that suit their size
letting go their horns loudly
a higher pitched trumpet
a lower pitched bassoon
the night presents itself
like the backdrop on a grand stage
inky black velvet deep and dark
where shadows no longer reside
as the dense thickness of fog
gives way to no purchase
to any living being pulled in
by its’ unseeing arms and hands
or any inanimate object
as here only sound transcends

Renee, sorry I didn’t get here sooner! New computer and loads of headaches with it… I love this work. Your words are haunting… I felt as though I were out in the dark, enveloped in the fog, even as I read it. The density of air, night sucking the light from my path. Amazing write, my dear. Thanks, Amy

Good to see you here Amy! No worries. I have done very little on my site or visited others in 2014 but hope to do more in 2015. I had to take lots of time to recoup after going through a really big system change at work. Affected my health but doing better now. Thank You for your kind words. Glad to hear you are doing okay. 🙂

Hi Sue, Am posting a note very quickly to let you know that on Sunday last I went into cardiac arrest and had to have emergency open heart surgery to replace my mitral valve which the bacteria had damaged beyond repair. I am home now recuperating and hope you are well. xoxox

Hi Sue, Sorry not to have responded to you but I have been quite ill. The virus I got in Jan apparently weakened my immune system allowing a bacteria (we all have) to attach itself to my heart valve which caused mini strokes and so I was in the hospital. I am getting better as I have antibiotics going to my heart via a PICC line every day. I want to thank you so much for all your kind thoughts but fortunate for me I am on the mend., Take care. xoxo

Thank You for your kind thoughts, Becca, I am finding healing from heart surgery is a test of patience for me as I have to depend on everyone for so much. When you have been independent for a lifetime it is certainly now so different than what I am use to, I hope you are well

I have come to believe … there is a huge lesson for us to discover in such situations. Not easy but quite important! ❤

Thank you Becca for staying in touch. Yes, I am learning it is okay to depend on others and patience certainly is a virtue. In all of this I am coming to learn that it is okay to take time for myself and to do the things I love to do and that life is not about a stressful job. Your responses have been very encouraging and I so appreciate you have made them. Take care. 🙂
