born in the year
of the dragon
apart from
all the others
always longing to
take flight
hold tight
to the rough scales
like chain mail
that can either
protect you or
bring you down
spiraling toward
earthbound
or is it made
like origami birds
light as air to
release you there
amongst the clouds
with your dragon tail
breathing
dragon breath of
fire and mist to
give you the strength
you need in
storm’s release for
you were born in
the year
of the dragon

You image of chain mail is very powerful. Keeping up our guard can lead to our demise. I find your stanza breaks interesting and powerful.

I love this Renee. My husband and best friend was born in the year of the dragon, and my, this poem is him! I used to call him Sundancer, admiring him from afar…
I have a whole set of dragon tales, from China, to France and of course the little dragons of South East Asia. There’s an anthology there somewhere.
Smiles! And thank you. So much for your support. Please tell me honestly what you thought of NAGA, when you have had the chance to read it.
You made me so happy.

Thank You again. I work with two people whose families originate in China and became very interested in their traditions. I was pleasantly surprised that I was born in this most celebrated year. Something to feel good about, to gain strength in the knowledge of.

So it seems you will prevail in either case.
Nicely written. I like the rhythm to it, somehow self-assuring.
Cheers!

Thanks so much Pamela. I am facing some big challenges as late and when I stopped to think it through…well. I have been through alot in life and will take this as I have in the past, one step at a time.

Renee – I like this very much … When I think of Dragons, I also think of Merlin, Knights of the Round Table, Arthur and Guinevere … there is something magical about them … along with fairies.
I couldn’t remember mine so I had to look up … I was born in the year of the horse!! 😀
(BTW … I love the background … very polished and old world feel)

These days I’m not feeling it much but being tired does that. Once I get some sleep things will seem so much better. Thanks!
