frescoes by moonlight and
who do you think you are?
michelangelo painting without
his soft plaster mixed hues
with varied colored pigments
standing amidst your
cans of spray paint beneath
the street lamps on a street
littered with bits of broken
bottles , dumpsters overflowing
pop cans and candy wrappers
as you gaze upon your creation
do you hold onto those who
created before you..van gogh,
gauguin, picasso, renoir, dali
do you think of michael and
his sistine chapel, his david
are they your collective muse…
do you hear their sighs as
you work or is it just another
tenement wall you hope to
disguise as something else…
transforming into that which
is beautiful and know it
will stand the test of time
someone else might call this
naught but graffiti, that you
deface public property but even
poverty and despair can be art
i call it frescoes by moonlight

I like this! Ode to the street artists who are often overlooked!

Thank You! I don’t think all of it is necessarily a bad thing because I’ve actually seen some that are very well done.

This is such a great take on the artists that work on street corners. I have seen some of the most beautiful art on buildings.

I loved your language and perspective here. Sometimes art needs to be pointed out.

I think people are generally to quick to point out the negative and not look at the positive in things. I have seen some fantastic murals over the years and even art done by one individual that is speaking to those who would listen…with their eyes. Thank You!

Some street art Renee like this are amazingly good.. and in many a gloomy setting can uplift and revitalize an otherwise dreary street…. What I dislike is when Graffiti is just words and slang, defacing a surface with malice and rage… I can live with this…. This is Art…. I just hope the artist channels their gift onto canvas as well… 🙂
Beautiful Poem as you piece it all together Renee… 🙂 thank you

I am a realist by nature but so like to see that which is beautiful in things and try not to put certain things and the way they are done into a ‘box’ as I also believe in the diversity of the choices that are made, which is what makes the world such a wonderful place. Thank you!

Some of the art I have seen on the walls of buildings is simply outstanding. They simply use a larger canvas. Thanks Claudia!

nice…i love graffiti….it is def an art and not a nuisance…and takes quite a bit of skill as well…tagging is a bit different…but all in all we are all trying to leave our mark…went to a competition for street art last year and it was amazing to watch…

A competition…hmmmm….now that would be interesting. Lucky you! Thanks again for your comment, Brian.

This is so good, Renee. My feeling is that so many graffiti artists just need the opportunity to showcase their talent in another way. In Reno there are projects for that purpose and I would hope the same is true in other places as well. I like how you drew in the masters…there is a difference between creative genius and tagging, but often the line is very thin.

Thanks Victoria and thanks for the idea of what to post. I often use reptition in many of my writings to…as you say…get a point across. I hadn’t really thought of it as being a part of who I am as a writer but yes, I guess it is.

Thank You! I often times wonder what another would think as they are doing something, even though I watch from the outside and may not even know them at all.

It’s important not to stifle creativity when chasing set educational attainments, but, I guess, it’s a fine balance.
