seasonal changes of ransomed time
coming ’round again in your eyes
when scenes play out in your mind
sepia toned images playing rewind
a summer day on a sunlit beach
walking to the water’s edge
just out of reach
casting long shadows
in our stride
digging for treasures
in the ocean tide
a vacation spent camping
at yosemite park
no pine needles allowed
in the canvas green tent
a diaper laundry line hung
between pine trees
the Coleman stove, the lantern
the sky a starlit sea
winter skies warmed by
the california sun
a metal christmas tree colored
as the color wheel turned
a little girl gazing
waiting anxiously for
christmas ‘morn to come
a spring day showing off
our Sunday best
the elm tree, the ’52 Ford
and all the rest
the smell of vinegar
the strongest kind
hunting easter eggs
our want to find

Lovely memories, Renee and great perspective of time being ransomed. I share some of those memories with you…finding treasures at the beach and the smell of that vinegar when it was time to color the Easter eggs…magical!

I might have as both mom and grandma cooked pretty much the same as mom learned from her. My dad’s short term memory is now adversely affected after his getting misplaced…as it were. Was visiting him in CA to give sis a break. Is an adjustment but nothing to be done. He still has his long term memory and sense of humor so it is a good thing. He will be 90 in November.

Your dad sounds like he’s doing okay considering his age. A good sense of humor can do wonders…I’m glad he still has his. My mother is 87 and we’ve just now talked her into letting someone come in once a month and clean for her. Her activity level is impacted by chronic back pain…it keeps her from doing so much.
