My Need To Fly

I have written this for dVerse a bit late and realize it won’t be posted there now as the link has expired but I was taken by Gretchen’s idea of music and wanted to put this out there in any case.   Please listen to this song that has given me such pleasure to listen to and I hope you will see how it impacted my writing here. Thank You!

do you live in the shadows
as i have done so wanting
to please who would
guide but from

a distance above as
you walk a tightrope
i did many years for
i always hoped

acceptance would come
in palpable ways to
amaze me and show me
my path was not grey

ambivalence filled with
the need to sleep when a
well meant prayer struck
fear ‘my soul to keep’

where the days took me
on a journey of my
own making and never
would i be forsaking

my need to fly to the
heavens above to create
all that my heart dreamed
of for it is sad it came

when she left this earth
to finally release me to
soar unburdened as i
move ever forward

my muse now nurtures
the wordsmith that was
once all but broken
the letters form words

that spill forth in
treasure to give my soul
long-awaited pleasure
conjuring melodies

seldom heard a display of
fireworks in rainbow
colors i walk my path in
awe and it has occurred

that life is still here and
i have not missed it as
i dance with it now as
i live in the moment

  1. what a transformative poem….i wonder if we have all struggled with acceptance as well..i know i did growing up….and took the outsider route, living up to it in all the cliche ways…pushing others away…glad you found the words, you know…and that they nututre you…smiles…well played…

  2. Dear Renee, we all have that path to shine. We just have to find it – persevere to find it, and I am so glad you have put it so clearly, so passionately. As a child, our feelings just sometimes felt like they would burst out of our chest, right? That’s how I feel you are feeling today…

  3. living in the moment…a good thing and sometimes it takes us a long way to be able to find that place of acceptance and i always think what a wonderful therapeutic powers those words can have, spilling our heart to paper…

  4. Often Renee life’s pathway can take us on a journey where we seemingly leave behind our dreams as life just seems to take over… But its good that you have found your passion within Words . Learning to see we are who we are and our journey’s have shaped us to who we are today..
living our Dreams are held within each moment, and to believe in our dreams brings their fulfilment ever closer…
    A lovely poem Renee…

Susan Boyle held onto her Dream, and had always loved singing.. She entered a TV talent contest here in the UK and she came second.. However she went on to record and is a huge success story.. showing that to believe in ones Dreams bring them alive.. ( Manifesting) Works….

You have not missed Life at all Renee, Life is just about to get interesting! 🙂

    1. I have followed Susan from the start and have the utmost respect and admiration for someone who waited a lifetime for a dream to come true. It doesn’t happen often but when it does…watch out. 🙂
