Your Vanilla

vanilla scent

Altered Google Image

shower cascades down as
steam rises it brings
a delicious moment
and i inhale the
fragrance of
vanilla

it carries me along
as the breeze does
a flight of fancy
eyes closed
i lean toward
a revery

i breathe in the scent
of candles of
fresh vanilla sent
to me of you
and your
memory

found in a distant past
to the smell of
baking in your
kitchen with
warm cookies
but alas

i realize you are gone
but you are here
and really never
far as i inhale
always your
vanilla

  1. smell has such a way of taking us back you know….certain smells evoke certain moments…or people…i was thinking mother as i read this…love the nature elements as well…the shower…the breeze…like stepping back…

  2. I knew it immediately. Sadly, I do not have memories like this. My Mum and I until today, talk. I remember conversations and storytelling. I wish we also have memories of baking and cooking.

Mum sends us out of the kitchen – I am the family’s worst cook.

    1. Thank you Susan and yes I so agree. On a bit of a funny note. My grandmother always used Ben Gay for her aches when I was a girl and now when I use any kind of muscle rub…I think of grandma. 🙂

  3. Smells are very powerful…certain perfumes can send me totally back in time. I think that’s a sweet memory to have of your mother…especially could picture her in the kitchen baking. Nice, Renee.
