      1. It is an amazing thing. I always looked for cotton thread to sew with back in the day…never liked synthetic thread or fabrics for that matter. Still try to buy natural fiber clothing.

      2. When I was a girl I use to make all my clothes. Mother started teaching me when I was quite young. I so love natural fiber clothing. Sometimes I will give into a blend but not if I don’t have to.

      3. I started sewing as a young teenager and learned from taking HomeEc in school and by my mother…she was an amazing seamstress. I loved it and sewed for my two girls and even my husband on occasion. I am loathe to wear polyester..but will if I really love the fabric and if it only has a small amount in it. Really prefer cotton and linen. How nice we have this in common, Renee.

  1. Yes we often forget the harvesting of the cotton and the processes it takes to go through before we can weave and get that garment from it…. Working in the Textile Trade for such along time I understand what this simple Beginning means to so many..
Thank you Renee for the Share..

    1. I think I remember you saying you worked in a ‘garmet factory’? Please correct me if I’ve made an error. I have always been interested in the making of fabric. Perhaps it is because I was taught to sew my own clothes at an early age. I feel cotton to be most wonderful and also becoming harder to find. Thank you so much Sue.

      1. You are correct Renee, I left school age 15 and went to work as a sewing machinist, and worked my way up through the ranks to become head of training/personnel officer … So understand fabric and the methods of makeup, as I worked 5 yrs with designers sewing first garments together from scratch etc..

Yes pure cotton is harder to find, as many synthetic fabric imitate cotton products…

I bought a real linen cotton blouse from Italy in the late 90’s and its still as good as new today and still fits Lol… you need to have a steam Iron to get the creases out, lol, but it stays crisp and fresh looking far longer than these man-made fabrics…

Making our own clothes is very satisfying isnt it Renee, but I only knit these days… although I do alter and sometimes make my own curtains… 🙂
