Quintessential

quintessential rhythms of life
pull at her like unforseen
threads tight and strong
like the chubby tiny fingers
connected to grasping arms

of all the children in her
past, present and future
calling her name as tears
were shed or laughter came
as words calmed their fears

quintessential rhythms of life
like breathing out and in
waking with each sun streaked
sky to watch patient each day
for the moon that will rise
to bring sleep’s calm sway

hoping that energy comes alive
as she wakes again dreaming
of bits and pieces of life
a reel on a camera fast forward
traveling at the speed of light

each year pages flipped in a
book the story not finished but
look and be quick as six decades
creep silent a tendriled vine
quintessential rhythms of life

Some people have grief over reaching age 30, 40 or even 50. Those were easy for me but this year is a milestone  60 years fast approaching and it is my turn to feel as though life has gone way too fast. Writing always helps.

    1. My youngest grandson is already 4yrs old and talks so much older. Love when he talks to me on the phone. Seems only yesterday they were all babies and now all grown. My oldest son will be 40 next April. Whew! Where did the time go.

    1. I, too, have a Spirtual life so was quite taken aback by why this year should bother me so much. Even 50 had no real impact. Oh, well, it is all good now. I guess the passage of time has finally looked at me from the reflection in the mirror and reminded me how it has flown. Thanks Marja!

  1. Although I have not reached 60 yet, I am not far off … I find time is flying faster and faster … I believe that is part of our aging process … time to appreciate what is important, and let go of the fluff …. simplify the process and enjoy with appreciation and gratitude for what is near us, and dear to us. Nicely written, I am glad you’ve returned to writing regularly — it is good therapy!!

    1. Thank you Becca! We didn’t have alot of heat here but what we did have made it difficult for sleeping, which is an issue I have anyway with my Fibromyalgia, so didn’t do well. Not sure how you manage where you live. We have fans but the bedrooms are upstairs and…well, you get the idea. I miss writing but when I am sleep deprived it is hard to get a thought together. Much better now.
