Past Measure

plaintive musings of
heat radiating
from the rafters
we contemplate
a moment after

but continue on in
search of the
perfect treasure
every one someone’s
past measure

old photographs in
sepia tones
a baby doll of
porcelin, clothes
yellowed and torn

coal shuttle boxes
now retired
carnival glass
pottery dinnerware
long since fired

a day of retreating
back in time
touching other’s
lives simpler then
in lines of rhyme

  1. The past can and does leave us many moments and memories or souvenirs to remember both the good and the bad times, doesn’t it. I love your art, and the thought of all those ‘treasures’ 🙂

  2. I’m hoping your fatigue has lifted, Renee. A beautiful look into the past…that’s sort of what I wrote about when I cleaned out a basket of “stuff” this week. I came upon so much and it took me into daydreaming and remembering…and some got thrown out…which was my intention. 🙂

    1. Fatigue for me is a day to day thing and sometimes more tired than others. With Fibromyalgia I don’t sleep well due to pain so am tired much of the times but when I do get some sleep….look out!! I am trying to downsize as retirement now is only a little over 5yrs away and want to sell and get something smaller and more manageable as besides my other problems Rheumatoid Arthritis has set in. A gift of genetics from grandma and mom but it’s all good as I will keep writing no matter what. 🙂

      1. I know what you mean with the pain and sleep. Sometimes my sleep is so restless and uncomfortable. I wish you well with yet another physical ailment to contend with, Renee…these bodies can be so troublesome! It sounds nice for you to be able to downsize into a new place…to begin a different life when you retire. Hopefully, a less stressful and more creative time for you.

  3. Hi Renee, I often wonder as I walk past those second hand junk stalls, at the treasured memories of those items now cast aside.. I know I collect paperweights made of glass, and have them from around the world where I visited… each one a memory .
Loved how you added your drawing also Renee, you are getting very good with your creations..
And reading your comments Renee, I too hope you are feeling better.. I have been through some terrible nights of sleeplessness with aching muscles with FMS .. But thankfully those pains are much less these days.. Good luck also with your view to relocating and downsizing Renee, My Hubby and I are also looking to do that as he retired this year.
    Lots of Love Sue x

    1. Thank You Sue for being so patient with my comings and goings…mostly goings…as late. I have had some stressful days at work and am trying to finish my kitchen, at long last, from last Summer so have been painting the cabinets that I have left. Sleep hasn’t been good so have been very tired and having difficulty getting to my site to post. The words are there but the energy to put them down limited. Once my projects slow down I will do better.
