Found this photo on the internet of a very nasty type of weed here in Washington State, a type of thistle, that has been banned (per the website) that attracts butterflies and bees. They might be banned but they still grow here as I pluck them out of my garden every year. Thorny devils. Ouch!

oh wow.

They are no fun to pull out, for sure.

I think a thistle is a thistle no matter what kind. I don’t like them a bit.

Oh no! Not in your grass. That is awful.

Trouble is, these type of thing become quite difficult to control too because they grow so quickly and in such large quantities too. Ouch on your ouch!

Yes, they come up so easily and pulling them out is anything but.

Beautiful but not good in the garden. They have nasty thorns that get you even through gardening gloves. So, okay to look at them but then they must be pulled out. In the wilderness is where they belong, I am afraid.

Thistles are so hard to get rid of … and must be dug out!! I am fighting them here in Central TX … 😦

I think the hotter the weather the more prolific these seem to be but with lots of rain they do grow quite large.

Amazing how ‘Weeds’ thrive and flowers often fade..
There must be something within their makeup Renee… I just wish the veggies in my garden would grow as strong and as quickly as all the weeds 🙂 xxx

You are so right. If the plants we want to keep in our garden grew as nicely as those awful weeds, what a blessing that would be.

Thorny, but not entirely unattractive. Rather like the human species, eh?
