Fierce strong winds
unrelenting
as trees are rendered
powerless
leaves harnessed
as branches are picked
clean
thrown free a brilliant
confetti
displaying colors of
reds, yellows, golds
butterflies
strewn about along
streets and gutters as
carpets
clogging city drains
quieting footsteps
the warmth of nature
embroidered

Renee, one of the seasons I miss the most autumn. Lovely verse, so filled with imagery.

I love warm weather and the sun as I am from CA but truthfully I would miss Fall if it wasn’t here. Thanks Pamela!

I want our autumn to last until spring, if only it would…. LOL Soooo not looking forward to the sub zero temps and snow!
This is exquisite writing. Remembering the smell of it all as life, and feel of dry leaves crunching underfoot, lovely.

Today is another rainy, windy day and soon the tree branches will be bare so I will enjoy it while it lasts. Thanks Bren!

Thank You! Fall colors will soon be gone but while they are here I look at them as much as I can.

Renee, I have the softest spot for autumn, for the trees relaxing… but I never thought of the leaves as butterflies! A truly original poem, filled with love of nature and brilliant color. Thanks so much, Amy

What a gorgeous poem. Autumn is my favorite season and ‘confetti butterflies’ is such fresh imagery to describe the leaves. Love that ending.

I had read this a couple of days ago and must have become distracted and didn’t comment. But it is a striking poem and photo–simply gorgeous images captured by your words, Renee. Right now, we have a “confetti” of large sycamore leaves all over our driveway and yard–every year of course.
Beautiful work, Renee.

I love the Fall colors of the leaves and do get them blown into my yard from other yards but only have a few smaller trees in my own yard that shed and they become mulch as I don’t have the energy to rake them. I do not envy you the sycamores, though, as beautiful as they are. Thanks Gayle!

As the depiction of your leaves falling here, it was reminisent of the making of a quilt for some reason to me. The colors, the harmony, the creation of leaves making a design. I don’t think I had thought it that way, so I will now view the leaves in their delicate “dancing” ways as art. Candy

Wonderful poem you have captured the essence of Autumn Renee, I just love it when all the leaves fall, not so much on a wet day when you can slip and slide on them.. But when its a frosty crisp morning and they crunch underfoot and have frost on them.. So love all seasons really each one has it own special merit.. But autumn here in the UK has been extra colourful this year with wonderful golds and warm browns and reds to please the eye…
Keep warm now as the winds and winter chill creeps in.. Hugs Sue~Dreamwalker xx
