Fragrance of Words

Words fragrant with meaning, layered
edges sometimes jagged enough to cut
leaving wounds behind nearly visible
edges sometimes smooth as glass open
to reveal emotions wrought infinite

Fall leaves piled in driveways and
gutters smelling of mildew and the
mustiness found in old homes years
neglected left with windows shuttered
leaving stories behind collected, untold

Dried flowers still hanging upside down
pressed inside the pages of a forgotten
book with the scent of roses given from
a beau timeless or a casket life ending
riding waves of memories love and loss

Candles burning the aroma of vanilla in
baked goods a reminder of families in
celebration of holidays or the acrid
odor of sulphur the match blown out and
the candle snuffed ending another era

    1. You are so very kind, Trisha, but if it were not for you I would still not try so hard to paint my own images using the Microsoft paint. My hand is not so steady but sometimes I like to try. 🙂

      1. Thank you Jamie! I actually took a chance to do the computer painting after I asked Trisha how she did it. I think she is very good and has a much steadier hand than myself. Real paper and canvas is more my area of art. I will be sure to link your site so I can visit you often.

  1. Amazing Poem to accompany the image you have created Renee.. I could smell the snuffed candle and see the dried flowers hung upside down. And the leaves too are piled in driveways here … You have captured the essence of our sences in the fragrances we each of us experience and have captured them for eternity here upon your page of words.. 1. I so love words and always have. I think I was quite captivated with them early on as someone would be with a treasure they have found and they have always had first place in my heart. Thank you for your kind words.
