Prisms

Prisms of color are touching the
corners of my mind with images of
ferry rides across unsettling
oceans of water a transport to
buildings of monumental size and
walls trimmed out with barbed wire
uninviting and cold beckoning with
unseeing eyes holding lives unable
to live, unable to speak their
truth with no one to listen but
unmoving walls devoid of a heart
bereft of a soul because when you
enter your life is no longer your
own and your spirit apart alone

    1. Thank you for visiting, Viv! I don’t see you often but love when you come. Yes, prisons are such awful places for so many to spend time in. Most of my posts are not so gloomy but there are times when I simply write what I am feeling.

    1. Sometimes memories give rise to my writing and although this piece is rather dark, the time it portrays was a difficult one for all of my family but one in which we learned, changed and added to who we are. Thank you for your comments, Becca.

  1. I discovered several years ago there are different meaning to “prisons”. There is the traditional incarceration in which we loose ourselves to the judical system, and there is in face a self made prison too. Which everyone locks us up and build walls, both are produce damaged goods. Lost souls, lost people, and minds that are kept under wraps until something frees them. Yes, incarceration is an awful thing we they throw away the keys. As well, when a person never grows and they throw away their minds to past abuses or lack of self confidence. Very stirring piece, I loved its dark corners. Candy

  2. I didn’t know you had experience with this particular place. It is good they are closed/closing. As someone who regularly walks with the damage and trauma done by these places, you have my biggest, deepest long distance hugs.

  3. Beautiful. I love prisms, they are very much like life. We have to move or (change) to get a different view. Lovely. We have many prisms in our home, they make beautiful rainbows on the walls :).
