Do you hear the whimsy doodle
from the spider in her lair
Do you know what she is waiting
for on silken threads as hair
Do you see her plump round belly
as she preens in silent rapture
Do you detect how important for
her to make an ultimate capture
She is making ready her silken
lair for many more to join her
She is hoping to feed them all
when an insect is dinner fanfare
Do you hear the whimsy doodle
from the spider in her lair
Do you know what she is waiting
for on silken threads as hair
She waits for all her little ones
bitty spiders to be coming soon
She waits to feed them dinner fare
beneath the night-light moon

This is my first piece on my site that will hopefully entertain children. I had thought to make a separate place for children’s pieces but not sure how I might do that yet. I use to write years ago for my children and those pieces are gone. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did writing it.

Very lovely, fun, whimical, and full of wonder. I loved this piece!Candy

Renee, this truly made me smile. I could see reading it to Riley when she was little, especially the “whimsy doodle from the spider in her lair.” Also, it is a nice way to teach children about nature, that, yes, some creatures get eaten, but we eat things too, so it’s all good.
Not a good book for vegans, I guess…! Thanks, hon. Amy

Too funny, Trisha, I was hoping it wasn’t too scary for little ones. I was going to post a real picture of a spider but then thought better of it. Thank You

Love this little Story here Renee.. if I may suggest you could do a seperate Page link for Childrens stories.. with sub pages for different stories.. A little as I have done under my own page headers in Art & Hobbies etc..
Im busy making a scrap book of my own short stories for when my own grandchild gets older to enjoy them.. and I shall illustrate it..
Loved Spider Whimsy.. XXx

I’m thinking of doing that as I have with my short stories but then I get concerned that no one is looking beneath the tabs and are missing things there. What do you think? You are a gifted artist and your book will be a wonderful thing for your grandchild. I have lots of grandchildren so if I did write a book, I would hopefully get it published and then they could share. Thank you always for visiting.

You could always post a link with your story Renee to the Page tabs.. or put a perminant link in your side bar to your page… Im not all that clever with Pcs etc but Im sure there is a widget somewhere where you can put your link as you create a place for Childrens stories… thats the fun of experimenting LOL.. Have FUN!! …. I have bought my scrap book so my experiment is on its way..
You should think of getting your book published WOW what a gift to your Grandchildren.. 🙂

This is great, Renee … and I love the illustration. 🙂
A thought to consider … you can make a page as Dreamwalker suggested … after you initially post it in the main section. In other words … post on the main then move a copy of it for permanent reference in the children’s pages. 😀

I didn’t think of being able to link it as both of you have suggested. I will give it a try, though, as it is always trial and error with me. I would love to write more for children, though, as my life seems to be filled with them. Thank You! 🙂
