Tragedy and Freedom

Summer days blossoming with
pine scented air while youth
come together in the belief
freedom prevails and accepts

Darkness heavy with twisted
knowledge of rising to lead
all people down a new path is
seen in the guise of justice
offering a hand to safety

Summer days heralding warm
sun, camp fires with song and
swimming with friends, family
believing in love and diversity

Evil watching and stalking to
create tragedy in taking lives,
disrupting lives to reveal a
mind lost in a maze disguised as
normalcy of friend and neighbor

Summer days blossoming with
pine scented air while youth
come together in the belief
freedom prevails and accepts

I would like to dedicate this writing to my friends in Norway , who although  were not touched personally by recent events there, are the epitome of those beliefs that prevail throughout their beautiful country.  People choose to call this country their home due to the belief that freedom and accepting all those who long for it, is what continues to give rise to opening their doors to  all ethnic groups, religious beliefs and diversity in all its’ forms.   Thank you for being who you are and for all your country people my heart and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

This is something I posted after the killings in Norway of so many young people whose life was taken simply because someone else decided, based on their own twisted way of looking at the world…calling them personal beliefs…that they should not live.  There is a fine line between the sane and insane and when it runs over into the lives of innocent people the world does seem a very troubled place indeed.

  1. A wonderful tribute you have created here Renee.. Yes a sad sad day in mankinds history of how inhumane some humans can be yet again, while others give of theirselves selfishly in service of others..

May I add my heartfelt prayers here to join the many already being sent across the world…

Compassion is a gateway to the future, sad though that is, we are all being groomed to start and think of others instead of our selfish material ways… Once again the Spirit of Man will have to start and live from his heart.. as we all of us are brothers and sisters on our Earth Mother, and we will need to realise what we do unto others we do to the whole which affects each and every one of us..

Thank you Renee.. Many Blessings are sent to all in this terrible time.. Suex

  2. Wonderful tribute poem. I am very impressed with how the people from Norway, and the Prime Minister in particular, are dealing with the situation and are refusing to let this man’s evil acts interfere with the freedoms and democracy that they have in their country.

    1. Thank you for visiting, Gabrielle. My friends in Norway are such loving, accepting people and I just cannot imagine this happening but no one is exempt it would seem from reality of some of the people on this planet. I know they will prevail.

  3. I saw on the news in the USA yesterday, they were saying should be be focusing all of our attention on the Islamic radicals in light of what occured in Norway, well, common sense ought to tell them that any fanatic of any faith is as dangerous as the next one. They each want to make a point, they each want to cause havoc and make a statement through as many deaths as they can.
White Christian fanatics are every bit as dangerous as are the Muslim fanatics.
This is a lovely and, gentle tribute for the people
You cannot fight terrorism, it wears no uniform and has no face. real and lasting peace has to begin with the children.

  4. Renee, not much I can add to what was said by you and by the comments above, except that until we can simply see one another as human beings, we are doomed. Everyone grabbing their piece of the pie, then guarding it as though the pie belonged to them, forgetting that the flour, salt, sugar, fruit, and all the other ingredients came from Nature. Lack of gratitude is part of the problem, and I’m not speaking of dogma here. Just sheer embrace of one another and thanks for each day. Lovely work, Renee. Amy

  5. What a lovely tribute Renee to the stoic people of Norway … when will people “get it” … we all belong to the Divine, therefore we are ultimately connected … when we hurt one, we hurt a multitude!!

    1. They do! The Norwegian people are a very accepting people as I have found with my friends, who represent these people as they are and will continue to be despite even this horrific act. Thank you for suggesting this topic.

  7. I like the repetition of the final stanza. There is so much hurting in this world, but the unity and freedom we find when we band together hand in hand much like the photo can change what is so dark into something beautiful

  8. I too liked the repetition of the first stanza to the last stanza, for it’s a wonderful opening and a fitting ending, as it is what we always need to come back to, no matter what happens.
