Sitting still cloaked in a
dewy mist covering her
body as a safety net of
tiny droplets settling on
each tiny hair, on the
lashes of her eyes
Listening intently trying to
hear sounds…of what, of
anything beyond her
soft breathing captured,
held within the mist, let
go in heart beats
Timeless memories to
tinder igniting emblazoned
parodies of countless
choices left as discarded
remnants scattered beyond
hands clasped tightly
Sitting still the mist begins
dissipating, embarking to
distant places, unknown
others, abandoning her
efforts to become invisible
within its’ embrace

Wonderful! A great depiction of hiding in the mist and allowing it to hide you from all else. I find solitude in the early morning mist and in the stillness find peace as well. I feel if one can be alone with oneself then there is no sense of peace and stillness within. In the times of courage and strength I go within the calm to seek the same peace and gather myself to carry on. Candy

Your poem reminds me of Alice Munro’s “Runaway.” A book of short stories I just finished reading. Each story is about a woman seeking some sense of permanence, yet finding herself alone within herself, listening to her own hearbeat, breathing memories, taking in her own story. Am going to have to go back and reread it now. Thank you,
Elizabeth

gorgeous poem and scenery. the picture looks like a rural road of west bengal (the province of india in which i live).
bullock carts make similar track marks in dust roads. the heavy tires make deep impression on both sides whereas the middle portion is often full of grass. 🙂
