Tiny Decorations

rainy fall day

Goggle Image

month of January i stand
listening to raindrops
hitting the pavement as
i wait for the rail
to arrive…waiting

i see a tree across
the street a smattering
of leaves left
hanging on like tiny
decorations

blown by the wind and
rain i can almost
hear their symphony a
musical awakening
calling my name

I am going to try and write something about each month from a site I follow. Lady Nimue has a Months of The Year Writing Prompt that invites those who would like , to write something about each month of the year. You can find information regarding it at http://ladynimue.wordpress.com.  This, or course, is for the month of January. For those of you who have already read the post excuse the change to the correct month.

Higher and Higher

Altered Google Image

i could not protect you
as you climbed
high upon the tree

thin spindly arms
you climbed higher
ever higher…free

’til you sat high above
waving to me
angel of everything

i still can’t protect you
as you still climb
forever the tree of life

Penury Dreams

Earth cracked and dried
a forgotten parchment
emanating nothing, not
even dust to hold the
barren roots unable to
sustain him any longer
he rests boughs leafless

penury dreams as the old
growth tree that he is he
reminisces about expanses
of forests that will one
day come to pass when the
youth of new trees planted
once again bring new life

Mellow Yellow Monday

Found this image of a dwarf lemon tree much like the one that grows in my dad’s backyard in CA. I look foward to visiting because the lemons are so much better than anything you could buy in the store.

#28 Small Stone: Promise

The hazelnut tree
now laden with
seed pods
brings the promise
of nuts to
offer
the blue jay
when
he visits later
this Summer

#23 Small Stone: Split Asunder

Trees split asunder by
the weight of snow and
ice too great to bear
even the strongest of
giants is no match
for nature’s force

Freedom’s Muse

She remembers freedom
like a forest trail
following her
beckoning

tree branches tender
caressing
showing her
heart’s desire as
budding leaves
green but
not with envy

her muse following
not as a shadow
but as one
privy to life’s
secrets

wound ’round about
as vines clinging
to tree trunks
laden but with
no regrets

dancing on fallen
leaves
a gift of her
imagination

Bluejay Indignation

They play tag with one another
running along the fence and up
over the stones in the yard to
climb up the nut tree in hopes
a bounty to be found as they
hang upside down by clawed feet
picking each nut to peel back
green busily to drop earthbound
unbeknownst of company watching

The Bluejay watches unamused in
seeing two squirrels climbing up
into his tree and taking his nuts
to drop them to the ground so in
righteous indignation he responds
telling them loudly they don’t
belong here running up and down
making such a mess of things but
they ignore his loud proclaiming
