Pondering a Panacea

Setting her lamp down cautiously
she makes her way to the center of
a bridge created from the giant
roots of seemingly prehistoric
trees designed as if gone rampant

looking at the sunlight spilling
out between a mountainous crevice
life calmly emulating complacency
speaking to her words in the distance
she but a fragment in time incredulous

hanging onto a cord of smaller roots
while mossy thyme and lichen provide
soft green carpet for feet so as not
to catch on peeling bark reminiscent
of reptilian skin shedding memories

she ponders the plethora of anomalies
called the “outside world” wondering
if ever there will come to exist a panacea
come to rectify the horrors she perceives
as real but in her world only a fallacy

Evidence of Spring

Hyacinths making their way

toward the sunlight

evidence Spring has arrived

Yesterday was our first real warm day of Spring and today promises to be very much the same. Worked in the garden yesterday and this image looks much like the hyacinths that are coming up now in my garden.

#26 Small Stone: Wondering

Thinking of you
wondering if there
is sunlight in
heaven to warm you
forever as you
lay sleeping

Last year my 18yr old cat Oliver went to ‘greener pastures’ as they say and this cat reminds me of him as he loved to lay on his back to sleep.

Elusive Energy

Elusive energy like
misbegotten passion
illusive and fleeting
for only a moment
then it is gone

like a faceted stream
of sunlight showing
prisms radiant as
diamonds vanished
as sunlight fades

Elusive energy that
fans out before you
star dust moonbeams
only captured in
dreamless sleep

Beautiful Feet

Hair silver strands of silk
sunlight dancing against her
face drawn but still youthful
few age lines caress her face
time tenderly holds as dear

Looking down her eyes light
on beautiful feet that
still loved to dance

Eyes in the mirror remember
times youth was her friend
running alongside her as she
played the wind in her hair
train flying down the tracks

Looking down her eyes light
on beautiful feet that
still loved to dance

Visions of newborn babies
light ’round her head with
cries of delightful chatter
growing into children who
quickly grew having their own

Looking down her eyes light
on beautiful feet that
still loved to dance

Aging shows in her reflection
a body very slowly moving
her mind cradles the energy
youth once displayed now
disparaged by passing years

Looking down her eyes light
on beautiful feet that
still loved to dance

My mother aged gracefully, I felt, although her ill health made life very difficult but in the few years just prior to her death, she would mention now and again how her feet were still nice looking. Her own mother’s feet were knarled and unsightly due to arthritis so I believe it was important to her somehow that her own remained beautiful. She  loved to dance so having feet still able to do so was important to her.
