A Child’s Request

The shadow of leaves from a tree
dance across the house next door
but in the darkness of last eve
only the children’s shadows
poured

dressed in Halloween costumes
finer than any Hallows Eve before
they came and kept leaving their
ghostly imprints on concrete
floor

smiles and laughter challenging
fears of a society that they
would dispel as though magic
were in the air and fear
just queerish

a memory of one small girl
a costume only a thin cloak
her words uncovered for she
asked for only a hug
nothing more

my heart was warmed
by her gesture
of which I obliged
in loving
measure

My own digital art take on yesterday’s history making event.  Although the state of Washington did not get a full eclipse we had some small interesting things that happened here.

****DISTANCE A GRAIN OF SAND****

the darkness of the night enfolds you
trying to hide you in its’ shadows
as i see you there within its’ curtain
answering my call to come to me
covering me soft with angel’s wings

the nights wore on and you were there
calling you  in a time of urgency
the night a cover with moonbeam light
revealing the many layers of your love

transcending time’s clockwork hands
now yours’ tenderly holding onto mine
touching my fevered face and brow
distance becoming a grain of sand
the night your warm embrace

During the many weeks of being ill and feeling as though I were alone I believed that my mother was there with me. Odd though it may seem death is not really a separation from those we love.

Where Shadows No Longer Reside

fog settles in like an old friend
like a shoe well worn..comfortable
like a thick moist, milky grey blanket
covering everything in chilly dampness

the tug boats push slowly forward
trying to slice open a path
using their lights as knives
moving painstakingly
the mist begrudging them passage

the tugs speak to each other
in the octaves that suit their size
letting go their horns loudly
a higher pitched trumpet
a lower pitched bassoon

the night presents itself
like the backdrop on a grand stage
inky black velvet deep and dark
where shadows no longer reside

as the dense thickness of fog
gives way to no purchase
to any living being pulled in
by its’ unseeing arms and hands
or any inanimate object
as here only sound transcends

*****The Winter Night Sky*****

the stars in the winter night sky
cast shadows
across the rose garden
trembling unseen
beneath their thorny stems
waiting for the warmth of sun
to bring forth budding faces
reminding me of you

Red Rose

Image Taken From The Morgue File
by Karpati Gabor

My mom went now, six years ago on January the 17th, to be with all those she loved and who went before. I certainly believe she is one of the angels now and watches over all who remain. I will never forget you mom. The red rose was her favorite.

********Edged In Silver*********

a sliver of moon beam light
descends upon my path
edged in silver garnered
casting shadows long upon
the grass from trees & i see

it translates from this place
to yours’ a thousand miles
a tryst measured in moments
when i will see you once again
on the other side of time & smile

A Sliver of Moon

Sliver of Moon
Google Image

last night I awoke to
large angry raindrops
as tempestuous as a
cold winter’s hail

as thunder rolled
across the night sky
as though trying to
knock over tenpins

amidst lightning strikes
only noticed as the
dark bedroom curtains
began casting shadows

but tonight setting high
in the night sky rests
a sliver of new moon
between gray pillow clouds

Change Comes Quickly

old wooden door
Google Image

change comes quickly
sometimes
just as we knew it would
not unlike an unwanted
intruder…silently
entering
with stealth
in darkness

waiting, just waiting…
remember how
we would wait
a game of hide ‘n seek
with only the
street lamps lit
casting shadows and
you hoped it
wasn’t yours
and then

you were found out
even though
you thought you were
hidden
and we did think so
didn’t we
safe from the
trappings
of life

in our home with a
door closed to who…
to the intruders,
of course…and
to change
but with the
light of day
it all is
clear

like a mirrored
reflection
in cut crystal glasses
but not so…
really
as the crystal is
but jagged pieces
and sharp edges
juxtaposed

fitting but not so
as a piece
here and there
slips
out of view
out of our view and
what do we do
but wait and wait
or turn about
like a kaleidoscope
to view something
else…new

for the domino pieces
do begin their fall
from him to her and
on and on as
change keeps coming
putting in motion
a game of
cause and effect
an unknowing

without warning but life
has no sounding
bells
no alarms ringing
to alert us that
it is here for
change comes
quickly
