****One Cottonwood Seed***

cottonwood seeds
adrift on the wind
living things
brought forth alive
as on the sea’s
changing tide

relentless in their need
to find safe harbor

cottonwood seeds
clinging to the thistle
purple flower bright
caught in the storm drain
fluttering
from the car vent
resting on a dashboard

relentless in their need
to find safe harbor

cottonwood seeds
in piles by the curbside
soft as downy feathers
white as the newly
fallen snow
safety in numbers

relentless in their need
to find safe harbor

a cottonwood seed
catches an updraft
as birds in flight do
coasting for miles
from where it grew
a patch of earth
to take root

relentlessly it’s come
to find safe harbor

Remnants Loved

Remants Loved

Altered Google Image

we might walk along
the ocean shore
to collect driftwood
a carnage
i implore
washed here from
other distant lands

or linger as i do now
in your embrace
listening to words
that will leave
no sign or trace
we have been here as
the wind and sea
carry footprints

away so effortlessly
but tell me only
of your
passion filled heart
and do not share
that which you
should not impart
of secrets once shared

with another heart true
who you left for a time
  so that you
  could walk with me
  here to collect driftwood
  washed smooth and clean
remnants loved and
left by the sea

Song of Lilacs

Purple Lilac

Google Image

rain comes down in
torrential rivulets
as wind buffets
the house

a reminder that the
smell of lilacs
carried on spring
breezes

will remain a distant
song carrying me
to the other side of
  stormy seas

Yesteryears Gone

wind full of sea salt surrounding
us walking the boardwalk
wooden planks reminiscent of
yesteryears gone by
but are they really
gone

footsteps lightly falling next
to us, fashions changing
from one piece bathing
suits to ones…barely

while ocean sands remain holding
sunbathers catching rays or
covered beneath large
umbrellas while

children now as then create
sand castles and some
belly surf while others
ride surfboards not
heard of then

we walk on amidst the chatter
of others the breeze
bringing to our ears a
cacophony of thunderous
ocean waves and
laughter

all this caught in a panoramic
moment in time the hourglass
sands swift bringing
from yesteryears gone by
but are they really
gone
