********Life’s Promise*********

leaves & petals
from spring flowers
lay limp
awash in a
rainwater puddle
amidst cigarette butts
on the railroad tracks

no longer admonished
or even praised
but part of
life’s discarded
no longer
part of life’s promise

Life's Promise

Unfurled & Rising

Crow

Google Image

her thoughts take flight
like a flock of birds
their wings unfurled
& rising like a
plume of smoke

only to tumble down
to earth
as though
pierced through
by arrows

so when the rain comes
they are carried swift
crashing
over waterfalls
to be dashed
against boulders

for she longs for calm
that may only come
when they settle
in a pool
of clear water
becoming smooth
as river stones
at rest

A Compass For Your Thoughts

compass rose mandala

Google Image

to be able to navigate through
timeless memories
steering clear of obstacles
careening intentionally
into elliptical forevers

stepping lightly past
moonlit nights kissed
by the fragrance of lilacs
spilling over from
sunlit days warm
as a breath of south wind

like peels of laughter
falling as rain driven
musical notes
cascading from
star dust covered bells

to bring back days on
beaches where the smell
of salt permeates the air
from briny ocean waters
to fall glistening
on your hair & skin

the smell of hot asphalt
beneath your feet as you
step lightly, a dance
of your own making
a revelry of heart and soul

to be able to navigate through
timeless memories
using a compass for
your thoughts
to guide you

on your journey of sojourning
& limitless imagination
testing the waters with your
inkwell muse….well,
what could be better
than that

Beating Quietly

hearts

Altered Google Image

the end of a week and
i don’t even mind
the rail when
riding means
a tide of
giggling teenagers

so…who cares
not i….i think as
my one brain cell
slides dismally
around in the
vacant space…
(did i say that)
between my ears

wind blows and rain
hits & then runs
down the glass of
the rail windows
but i don’t
notice

as businesses stream
by because i
just want to get
home and feel nothing
but relief but
when it comes

i think of you &
our phone calls
the phone
silent now these
past five years

when idle chit-chat
meant a kind of
reprieve, relax…ing
into now so i could
hold ON to you

only a telephone cord
away & now…even a
telephone cannot
bring you close with
your voice so
like mine as if

i practiced daily to
play it back from
a treasured tape
but instead of
waiting for the
phone to ring

i close my eyes
hold my hand
atop my chest &
feel you there
beating quietly
inside me and
i am home

Song of Lilacs

Purple Lilac

Google Image

rain comes down in
torrential rivulets
as wind buffets
the house

a reminder that the
smell of lilacs
carried on spring
breezes

will remain a distant
song carrying me
to the other side of
  stormy seas

Tiny Decorations

rainy fall day

Goggle Image

month of January i stand
listening to raindrops
hitting the pavement as
i wait for the rail
to arrive…waiting

i see a tree across
the street a smattering
of leaves left
hanging on like tiny
decorations

blown by the wind and
rain i can almost
hear their symphony a
musical awakening
calling my name

I am going to try and write something about each month from a site I follow. Lady Nimue has a Months of The Year Writing Prompt that invites those who would like , to write something about each month of the year. You can find information regarding it at http://ladynimue.wordpress.com.  This, or course, is for the month of January. For those of you who have already read the post excuse the change to the correct month.

Spirit Play

Altered Google Image

my spirit plays amongst
microscopic particles
of sand sparkling
left clean

as the salty ocean water
leaves trails
of foam behind

an intruder…
but nought as it
takes flight drifting
in and out of wildflowers

as a honey bee
gathering
golden pollen
from within each
petaled wonder

taking with it the
beauty of fragrance
it once again rises

to find healing in
the sunrays
cleansing in
the raindrops

letting colors of
the rainbow
penetrate
to become one
with its’ soul

to wrap itself
in grandeur of
nature to embody
it all

my spirit shares a
moment in time
cascading
down waterfalls

smoothing pebbles
in a stream
catching glimpses and
reflections
its’ life
embodiment of mine

Setting The Tone

Altered Google Image

light spills from
the street lamp
pooling at your feet

a rainy evening
reflecting images

dancing one
upon another

setting the tone
for raindrops
musical serenade

Three Years Today

three years today not
tomorrow giving rise to
yesterdays filled with
sorrow and trepidation

angst beating against
us like rain drops to
pelt out songs of dismay
pain like no other

causing us to walk in
our own shadows trying
to keep the pain at
bay until another
day and still the rain

came down to wrap us
secure in the fashion
meant for bringing forth
life and love with
emotional passion

we wept in silence an
effort to be brave
standing fierce against
the onslaught of a
disease rending

you mute most days
covered in blankets
against the inner chill
freezing your blood
a prisoner your will

three years today not
tomorrow giving rise to
yesterdays filled with
sorrow and trepidation

we are unbelieving now
the sun doth shine an
unbridled warmth we
walk among the living
cautious to walk forth

secure in our hesitation
did it really ever
happen that cancer
took our lives now we
took them back again

This is dedicated to a woman who, when diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer, took her faith and belief that all would be well and fought to overcome and now three years later is cancer free. Her faith and fierce determination carried her through.

Something More

Fresh smell of newly mown grass still
wet with recent rain leaving drops of
water glistening in the afternoon
with May flies hovering about not
yet the month of May, the deep
green of the grass offering up
renewal and something more
