Ethereal Notes

Melodious Notes

The piano notes not my own

floating ethereal around me

speak of lullabies played

soothing tiny souls to sleeping

vestiges of the golden moments

when a youthful heart dreamt being

bright-colored fancied whimsy

silver spun silken blossoms

to be woven into a shining dawn

in sun rays spilling rainbows

resplendent new and undone

for as the notes dance before me

the hours softly melting away

reiterates life’s fluctuations

not crafted to make my own

Persuaded By A Smile

I never knew her name and remembrance
of her face has faded from memory
but her kindness still remains steadfast
within the warmth of my beating heart

where upon I still see the upright grand
dusty and in need of repair standing
proudly in the living room of a house
I only encroached drawn by its’ beauty

for she saw I was smitten by its’ presence
and invited me to play for even though
not a lesson had I the music seemed to
pass without pause to my finger tips

as I came to knock each day upon the door
to see the beauty of her smile and knew
that she no longer played but entreated
me to sit once more at the upright grand

***More Than A Gift***

The gift arrived in my twelfth year
while I was being taught
the accumulation of others’
knowledge in books

during the course of another day
bright sun rays dancing
off concrete and asphalt
dust devils creating havoc
in the schoolyard

the joy on my face evident
upon seeing the Spinet
a large red bow dressing
its’ glossy maple surface
waiting for me
beckoning me

playing the white and black keys
that struck the harp within
a euphoria like no other
healing hidden pain

she had no idea of what time spent
scrimping pennies had done
to raise hopes in a world
changed forever
the year I was ten

the station wagon had lingered
a massive tangled wreck
on the cement driveway
a constant reminder
that a body cannot
always be fixed

I played the Spinet as though
my life depended on it
the music resonating
louder than my heart

the gift arrived in my twelfth year
cradling my hands
as though warm loving arms
helping me to breathe
to lift a wounded spirit
giving space to heal

you set waiting amongst others of your kind
housing the large harp within your casing
standing upright and waiting for that one
that would love you enough to once again

lovingly ply your ivory keys with passionate
longing to coax musical notes waiting to
escape the dust that has settled upon them
in an effort to come alive, notes chording

to no longer set idle in bitter loneliness
but belong in the midst of those that would
wipe away the weary years with but a touch
of shine from joyous tears that melodies sign

will rise like timeless orchestrated sighs
bringing rays of light into lives one true
measure you will no longer wait in silence
but fill empty hours with unending pleasure

Jazz Melodies

Smoke filled room radiates music
sweet and low like the base of a
cello with notes wafting away on
carbon particles sent billowing
from pursed lips on cigarettes a
heady ambiance of slow jazziness

Holding the mic close like a lover
eyes closed, head tilted back to
hypnotize the audience enraptured
like star gazers longing to travel
with her along roller coaster notes
C sharp high, B flat low and mellow

Lights from the stage show shadowy
figures, drinks in hand as haunting
melodies dance across a piano keyboard
drawing the dancers to the floor in
rhythmic succession stepping to the
beat as she belts out notes ever faster

My love for Jazz and the musical realm it portrays has always been a part of my life and after getting to know the author of a particular site I found myself drawn to the idea of posting something for the music I love and also to dedicate it to one who sings it beautifully and with passion. This one is for you Amy! I so appreciate you and all you do. You can find Amy and all of her recent writes plus an awesome interview at http://sharplittlepencil.wordpress.com
