***MY MISTRESS***

On the mountains of Washington
fields of wildflowers
cut a swath through my memory
as do the sandy beaches
my native California bearing

Inspiration comes in slices
not always the juiciest fruit
my muse won’t be blighted
by the guise of petulant youth

I sought solace in all beauty
the thundering of a waterfall
the perpetual volley of waves
speechless innuendoes calling
only a tumultuous roar

Nature has become my mistress
breathing soothing sultry calm
capturing a dissident muse
held within her arms

***LIKE CHINESE LANTERNS***

she stands & watches
as leaves fall from the trees
letting go; let go
upon the brisk winds
of mother nature’s tide

some still remain
as the tree bows her head
bending from side to side
the rain like tears
drop one upon another
pooling at her feet

sprawling roots
upon the ground
anchoring her down
& in that moment
all that is heard
is the sound of sorrow

freedom unleashed
on a tide akin to a river
of sparkling colors
like Chinese lanterns
floating alight
with dreams within

*****Fragile Life Reminders*****

fragile life reminders
buried beneath
mountainous depths
mudslides
too close to home
& in other countries
that now feel close

reminders felt in flood waters
helpless lives
with nothing to grasp
taken by the current
nature’s release
that accumulated
from tiny raindrops

reminders felt in tornadoes
hurricane force winds
sweeping across land
far from any ocean
a corkscrew & no bottle
a swirling massive rage
filled with debris
nature’s play things

reminders as the mower
cuts through grass
a jungle habitat
of tiniest creatures
a green frog thumb size
scampering for safety
a hand captures him
release beneath shaded trees
fragile life reminders

fragile

There have been, recently, many natural disasters across the US. In my own State of Washington an unheard of mudslide claimed many lives on a sunny day. In the midwest news of tornadoes and in many other States floods from too much rain. I happened on a tiny frog in my yard and thought of all the lives lost in the blink of an eye and had my eye not caught his movement, he too would be gone. Life is fragile.

The Realist & Angels

angels-4
Google Image

i am a realist by nature
looking at my world
not through
rose-colored
glasses
but glass tempered
clear and hard
as the surface
of smooth steel beams

yet believing in angels
surrounding me
in my quest to seek
all that is
spiritual
feeling their presence
just beneath
the surface
as in a languid pool
of water

reality may keep
my being anchored to
the unsettling nature
of human beings in life
but my soul takes
flight
with my spirit
on an ever rising
tide of angels
and safe passage

#23 Small Stone: Split Asunder

Trees split asunder by
the weight of snow and
ice too great to bear
even the strongest of
giants is no match
for nature’s force

#19 Small Stone: Frozen Images

Images iced and frozen
held captive in a
storms frozen embrace
where time and the
cycle of nature only
will release them
