The Killdeer and Red Clay

The Killdeer takes short running steps
in the grasses of Wyoming, reminiscent
of the Sand Plover on the beach
a sandy shore sparkling in the sun

singing their short high pitched song
creeping stealth but hesitating
then stopping to take in their
grassy surroundings

this they do each day routinely
as I take my walk in the heat of day
the winds gusting around me
that threaten but do not sway

for the scenery is new to me
a visitor here, as I admire contrasting
greens with that of the red clay earth
touched by iron oxide in Nature

in a landscape seeming barren, lacking
stretching toward the horizon line
is still teeming with life unseen
beauteous if you but take time to see

December Passion

the Fall brought her to me warm and soft
with dark brown eyes and tiniest hands
reminding me nine months prior to the
month of December when passion ignited
fervor between cotton sheets and darkness
transforming cold into heated pleasure
where in the aftermath holidays came
filling the kitchen with baking of pies,
sweet sugary cookies warm from the oven
& the promise of love lasting a lifetime

Heart's Passion

The Heat of August Nights

The longing for warmer weather and sunny days
falls somewhere between Winter rain
and Spring flowers beginning to petal

but it all has given way to a heat so heavy
that it settles upon her August nights
as though weighted a substantial burden

it permeates every living thing and even
insects take refuge long for cooling air
causing the synergy of habitats once again

for the fine line between longing and needing
takes her back to the petals of flowers and green
days with a cool breeze a paramour of the sun

August Nights

***COLORADO LAGOON***

Always scorching heat in So Cal
enfolding me a sticky sweet embrace
thirsting for the cool of water
to lap at the brown skin of my face

Hopeful an outing in anticipation
to a place of sand and salt blowing
Colorado Lagoon a sleepy fresh water
would quench in a pinch for swimming

Tantamount to an ocean beach shore
concession stands to take your coins
even as a quarter sparkled at my feet
ephemeral as a cool wind purloined

Lagoon

“Fan-Damonium”

i watch them whirring
speeding ’round with
different speeds and
different sounds

the ceiling fans
looming rather close
blades above my bed
i feel rather verbose

for they remain my
companions still
holding at bay rising
heat waves until

long-awaited hours
a wee small morn
signals them quiet
briefly and then

sun looms bright in
digits still rising
my once peaceful
abode fans plying

their high-pitched
white noise swirling
hot stagnant air
i lay awake listening

to their ‘HUMMMMING’
constant droning stares
a fever pitched night
a “FAN-DAMONIUM” scare

As you can tell we are now having our Summer and for me getting to the computer to post anything at all is dependent on how hot my office/bedroom is and lately almost too hot to do anything at all. The fans have become my constant companions as I’m sure most of the rest of the US have already had the pleasure of entertaining them in their own humble spaces.
