The Happiness of Music

Visiting family always meant surprises
anticipated from my niece then a girl
who loved everything theater and song

whose tight curly hair & bright eyes
shone like a happy beacon of light

she remembers talk of a voice teacher
& the one time both niece and sister
practiced the violin

but the one memory that dances across
the pages of her mind is the visit
to a restaurant on a clear warm night

where the happiness of the girl seemed
simply to overflow & take flight

so when they walked into the night air
she believed they had left her behind
but not very far had she gone

for the landscape had small hills there
where she stood upon the top of one

hence she raised her arms spread wide
breaking into song to make us smile
‘the hills are alive…

my sister just smiling at the big voice
that filled the night and I sighed

Love of Music

Apologetic Sighs

The distant thunder of
apologetic sighs
creeps unheeded into
our days and nights

giving us pause to
consider again
how much it means to
have family and friends

pulls at our hearts to
correct and make right
the ills of all wrongs of
sufferings and plights

The distand thunder of
apologetic sighs
creeps unheeded into
our days and nights

#12 Small Stone: Woven Ties

Life woven together intrinically
with indelible ink that may fade
with time but not alter the
unalterable truth of those we
connect to as families of origin
with ties that bind over time

Tragedy and Freedom

Fresh Desktop Wallpapers

Summer days blossoming with
pine scented air while youth
come together in the belief
freedom prevails and accepts

Darkness heavy with twisted
knowledge of rising to lead
all people down a new path is
seen in the guise of justice
offering a hand to safety

Summer days heralding warm
sun, camp fires with song and
swimming with friends, family
believing in love and diversity

Evil watching and stalking to
create tragedy in taking lives,
disrupting lives to reveal a
mind lost in a maze disguised as
normalcy of friend and neighbor

Summer days blossoming with
pine scented air while youth
come together in the belief
freedom prevails and accepts

I would like to dedicate this writing to my friends in Norway , who although  were not touched personally by recent events there, are the epitome of those beliefs that prevail throughout their beautiful country.  People choose to call this country their home due to the belief that freedom and accepting all those who long for it, is what continues to give rise to opening their doors to  all ethnic groups, religious beliefs and diversity in all its’ forms.   Thank you for being who you are and for all your country people my heart and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

This is something I posted after the killings in Norway of so many young people whose life was taken simply because someone else decided, based on their own twisted way of looking at the world…calling them personal beliefs…that they should not live.  There is a fine line between the sane and insane and when it runs over into the lives of innocent people the world does seem a very troubled place indeed.

Recuerdos

Strands of hair as silver threads
shining dimly in the light as
hazel eyes peruse photographs of
children, grandchildren, those
great-grandchildren looking
back with smiles frozen, another
time, other places in the past

Mi padre recuerdos en la luz del dia

Strands of hair as silver threads
shining soft as silk on ears of
corn her eyes treasured memories
held in photographs, giving back
years stolen in hands frail aged
with spots, he sees framed the
importance, a families life shared

City Night Sounds

Image Taken From www.discoverwildlife.com

Above the sound of traffic, drifting
over the brick walled enclosure by
Target parking, erupts the night
cries of the Peacock echoing a
call to all the others roosted in
tall trees silhouetting against the
dark night sky in the ‘burbs

Somewhere among asphalt and
concrete, city lights lining streets
with houses keeping families is
heard the melodies of peepers in
ponds safely hidden as crickets are
the string section of a band
beneath Mariachi music

All She Owns

Walking the streets with shuffling
footsteps carrying all she owns
not mindful of people staring
not caring that life stole
family, a life, a home

Sitting on a bench back bending
eyes closed in the noon day sun
faceless among passersby
resembling a live statue
created by all and none

Sleeping by the wall of a bus stop
disappearing in layers of clothes
all that she has in the world
now she is nameless alone
living a life not chosen
