Brilliant Stars

The evening sky’s light dims as night approaches
while the silhouettes of mountains and trees
hover as giants lining the distant horizon
all creating the initiation of wonder

as the painted palette of life dulls to grays and blacks
stretching out alongside a winding road
as seen through the windows of a car
two brilliant stars appear to follow

while the road twists and turns they like magnets
draw attention to quiet stillness and light years
become closer than a planet’s nightly orbit
for Venus and Jupiter shine as beacons
within the mystery of the universe

Espadrille Footprints

I remember her walking
leaving espadrille
footprints on the
sandy shore

cosmic dust in the
evening sky a
star dust stream
settling amidst
diamond particles
in the sand

each step taken by
tide’s wavy hands
greedy seaweed
grasping broken
shells

she stares upon the
open sea
gazing hungrily
needing moon beams
to become a
path

taking her away
as dreamers
often do to
another land
a distant
horizon

when I next look
her footsteps
remain to
be swept away

in the foamy
tide as only the
espadrilles
remain

Apricot Summers

Humming insects
ripe fruit
falling from the
neighbor’s avocado
tree and eaten by
our dachsund growing
plump and round
while night crickets
make their rasping
cricket sounds

Apricot Summers

Asphalt streets
sizzling hot sending
waves of rippling
water mirages seen
in the noon day sun
slowly disappearing
cool evenings
light drawn June bugs
sticking to the
backdoor screening
