An Oasis And A Memory

A distant not long walk along a winding drive
lined with trees green, lush, colors vibrant
change is carried on the wind as each leaf falls
their singing heard in their rustling unison

awaiting a long sleep, noiseless, resting on ground
now littered with birch, alder, madrone and maple
greeting with a silent sigh a wall of colors colliding
melding with moss now a roof for insects beneath

on an island oasis of tranquility, calm and peace
a refuge shadowing a memory of a desert landscape
devoid of the beauties of vegetation though birds
take flight over both as life is wont in doing

The Image Is My Photo Created As Art

Turtle Rainstick

The tall piece of bamboo sets in the corner
as though keeping the walls from colliding
with the aboriginal turtle in mustard yellow hues
keeping a silent vigil, a respite, as the rain
signals a force of nature outside my window

I am reminded that I am a creature of water
my molecular being silent within a human shell

the wonder of a million droplets from a cloud
forming a single raindrop is mind boggling
as they gather in rhythmic action

creating puddles, streams, rivers, waterfalls
cascading exponentially into vast oceans
a home for other water beings living
within a life-giving force

and I listen in amazement at the symphony
that brings life to the earth I live on
where brilliant colors of flowers bloom
in gardens tended and meadows flourish
on mountains

replete with nature’s abundance of creatures
beasts walking the land and flocks of birds
taking flight tenured with bird song

am I not enraptured to know my heart
still beats within its fluidic capsule embrace
of the water that holds me ensconced
in safe keeping

that when the rain thus ceases its’ melodic sounds
the bamboo stick awaits but my touch
yearning to recreate rain’s wondrous music
the timeless aboriginal turtle
warm beneath my hand

***The Season of Becoming***

Is this the Winter of her discontent as with
Shakespeare the world around might seem one
that is indifferent to her sadness that age
has besieged her but no it is not so harsh
as the icy cold winds and snow harboring
a breath that will not seek to warm her skin

for it has become like the Season of Summer
where the warming rays of the sun stretches wide
to cover the new growth from Spring that offers
new bright green leaves that will be transformed
into variations of darker greens providing shade
to all of nature’s life beneath boughs of trees

who watch as life is born from tiny tadpoles
becoming frogs to the larvae of dragonflies to
a multitude of birds peering from the safety of eggs
to all beginning a journey of grand proportions
where Fall will see a quiet settling in to harvest
and rest amidst the beauty of all that has become

for stepping into the Winter of her life she now sees
her discontent not as a sadness but as one of observing
all that has come before, all that has become who she is
for it is another beginning and one of transformations
that will show her all the brilliance of her colors
enabling doors to naught hidden as opening to reveal

Tulips in Snow

***Eclipsing Rainbows***

There are moments of clarity drenched in a soul’s peace
where everything is an eclipse of brilliant rainbows
and becoming is like being mirrored images in lakes
where coral reefs are arms cradling infinite oceans
whereupon mountain rising islands are pristine views
touched only by Galapagos creatures of uniqueness

entering into a communion devoid of ritualistic cups
and eyesight becomes like those raptors’ rapturous quest
to make the flight over the highest of mountain ranges
like child’s play when there is a vision to fly along
and wings are the freedom of song birds a narrative song
in chorus with insects accompanied by frogs croaking

perceiving the world in a field of flowers engaging in
the mystery of becoming seeds under dark brown earth
and pushing up toward the brilliance of mother sun to
sprout into every conceivable bloom with stamen covered
with the sweetest of nectar drawing hummingbirds for
their respite and insects unknowing a pollination of life

Eclipsing Rainbows

***Spring Beckons***

The birds tremble in the cold morning air
wings flutter beneath the leafy boughs

the air is shot through with bird song
like tiny meteorites dancing in the sky

reminding me that the warmth of Spring
beckons in tiny increments of beauty

as the small pink flowers of succulents
peek out smiling with miniature faces

the tiniest flowers of heather in bloom
for weeks despite the daunting cold

for each morning the bird song’s chorus
awakens me and gives my spirit wings

Year of The Dragon

dragon gold
Google Image

born in the year
of the dragon
apart from
all the others
always longing to
take flight
hold tight
to the rough scales

like chain mail
that can either
protect you or
bring you down
spiraling toward
earthbound
or is it made

like origami birds
light as air to
release you there
amongst the clouds
with your dragon tail
breathing

dragon breath of
fire and mist to
give you the strength
you need in
storm’s release for
you were born in
the year
of the dragon

Unfurled & Rising

Crow

Google Image

her thoughts take flight
like a flock of birds
their wings unfurled
& rising like a
plume of smoke

only to tumble down
to earth
as though
pierced through
by arrows

so when the rain comes
they are carried swift
crashing
over waterfalls
to be dashed
against boulders

for she longs for calm
that may only come
when they settle
in a pool
of clear water
becoming smooth
as river stones
at rest

Fluttering Black Taffeta

winter’s sky holds images
winged birds in
flight fluttering
black taffeta
dotting the
horizon

black birds blend in
grey skies
amidst giant
evergreen trees
branches waving

as leafy arms
in the wind but I
remain safe and warm
cloistered within
 home as sanctuary

waiting for warmer breezes
to return along with
voices of songbirds
heralding in
spring
