Tempura Sunset

Variegated hues of blues
spilling out across the
sky with yellows, oranges
and shades of watercolor
pinks following closely
behind painting the sunset
as tempura colors splashed
with bluest ice atop in a
transformation of edible
nature ready to be consumed
with eyes a delicious dessert
to end a busy Summer day

Another busyĀ day and with a nearly complete kitchen remodel IĀ now also have a nearlyĀ complete new small deck, where a once rickity old wooden porch once was. I glanced out of the window and saw an awesome sunset. This comes somewhat close to the colors I saw…not my sunset but wonderful just as mine was.

The gentleman who took the photo combined his talents for photography with looking at ship wrecks beneath the ocean. This particular wreck was a German ship sunk in World War II and was enroute to Germany with a myriad of things for the soldiersĀ including many ofĀ these motorcycles.Ā  Another photo he took was of a Volkswagon, that at one time (I’m sure) was new but still sits at the bottom of the ocean along with everything else that was on board. I wasn’t looking for this kind of photo, as I had already written and titled my post, but when I found it could not resist and it seemed to fit so well.

For-Get-Me-Nots

For-Get-Me-Nots grown in my mind
twisting amongst stems and leaves
where thus sheĀ  planted them
flowers forever are blooming

For-Get-Me-Not seeds lie deep
within my memory of lives woven
fast as the thread of all blankets
wrapped ’round for all eternity

For-Get-Me-Not petals whispering
in my ear..forget me not…forget
me not…please forget me not as
I recall and wipe away a tear

For-Get-Me-Nots within my heart
I listen content to the soft
promises I once so easily made
I will forever not once forget

Just a couple of years before my mother died she sent a Birthday Card,Ā Ā  as she had done every year for all of my life, butĀ within held a packet of seeds…For-Get-Me-Nots. In her own way she knew her time was growing short and it was her way of asking me indirectly what she could not ask me.Ā  I found a new site that has thisĀ name and it brought this to my mind. This is for mom.

letting my
muse lie by
my side
tempting and
teasing the
spirit inside
drawing near
to play the
child with
words flowing
free for us
both beguiled

Spider Whimsy

Do you hear the whimsy doodle
from the spider in her lair
Do you know what she is waiting
for on silken threads as hair

Do you see her plump round belly
as she preens in silent rapture
Do you detect how important for
her to makeĀ an ultimate capture

She is making ready her silken
lair for many more to join her
She is hoping to feed them all
when an insect is dinner fanfare

Do you hear the whimsy doodle
from the spider in her lair
Do you know what she is waiting
for on silken threads as hair

She waits for all her little ones
bitty spiders to be coming soon
She waits to feed them dinner fare
beneath the night-light moon

This is my first piece on my site that will hopefully entertain children. I had thought to make a separate place for children’s pieces but not sure how I might do that yet. I use to write years ago for my children and those pieces are gone. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did writing it.

Apricot Summers

Humming insects
ripe fruit
falling from the
neighbor’s avocado
tree and eaten by
our dachsund growing
plump and round
while night crickets
make their rasping
cricket sounds

Asphalt streets
sizzling hot sending
waves of rippling
water mirages seen
in the noon day sun
slowly disappearing
cool evenings
light drawn June bugs
sticking to the
backdoor screening
