Dreamscapes

Life imitates dreamscapes not defined within illusion
fleeting images of happiness only written in a song
where you tumble freely like Alice in the rabbit hole
grasping at the path that will carry you along

in colors brilliant that set you apart from the crowd
carrying you light hearted past lyrics more than song
where sun and moon shines a landing upon a billowy cloud
footsteps now inside your dream for life has come along

An Oasis And A Memory

A distant not long walk along a winding drive
lined with trees green, lush, colors vibrant
change is carried on the wind as each leaf falls
their singing heard in their rustling unison

awaiting a long sleep, noiseless, resting on ground
now littered with birch, alder, madrone and maple
greeting with a silent sigh a wall of colors colliding
melding with moss now a roof for insects beneath

on an island oasis of tranquility, calm and peace
a refuge shadowing a memory of a desert landscape
devoid of the beauties of vegetation though birds
take flight over both as life is wont in doing

Changes of A Beating Heart

Waking from a soundless, dreamless sleep
with only a ticking of a heart still beating
a new valve seven years young and still
urging its’ recipient forward a moment more
toward one more day on a well tread path

crickets chirping in a heat clandestine
unknowing if Fall leaves denote a changing
until night turns all into blackness and cold
brings down a dark velvet curtain quietly
waiting to take center stage a new beauty

where in the distance a train faintly heard
a rumble of a giant it’s metal wheels screeching
along heavy metal tracks as it approaches closer
a whistle increases as it signals its’ movement
closing the distance, announcing its’ presence

changes always distant yet closer than they seem
a ticking heart broaching an unknown surface
turbulence increasing in colors bracken unclear
still seeing in the distance reds, yellows, oranges
counting with each tick of the heart another day

Unexpected Places Cerulean

Loneliness in unexpected places as light fades
where darkness hides us painfully within a crowd
a sea of faces swimming before us hurtling insults
crying,Ā  longing release the light of day brings

never really alone clinging to memories calling
a life revealing a landscape of muddy waters
licking shoes taking tenuous steps seeking
solidity of forms and shapes not shadows

as a breeze gently touches, caresses to whisper
heard over a beating heart warm and living
kaleidoscope of cosmic milky cerulean colors
within a galaxy timeless casting tomorrows

bringing us to unexpected places brilliant
as a new star created out of the darkness
exploding, nae screaming but resilient
new beginnings along the path taken

Pressed Leaves In Time

Ā

Leaves pressed along and upon the road

rain soaked to become part of the landscape

pressed as though escaping from the pages

of a book long forgotten but still intrinsic

Ā

to a life lived, a day spent, a moment laden

in a time shared, a smile revealed still seen

in the mind’s eye with each passing year

to be held close in each raindrop that falls

Ā

leaves pressed not by human hand’s folly

but the unleashed presence of nature

pressed down by passing cars and in time

imprints of feet beneath a crunch of tires

Ā

pressed down but not between the pages

of sentimentality to be treasured in time

for with time these leaves will fade away

once part of life and will be once again

Ā

they are now integral to our landscape

sleeping a long awaited death in dying

a pause to give life a continuing cycle

time to breathe & wait for color again

Ā

while lone sentinel ferns see in silence

once a vibrant green they hold dying leaves

now a weathered color of red-orange rust

fronds curled in sadness under gray skies

Ā

knows their life is a reflection of leaves

pressed down in the road and the ground

it breathes a sigh unheard but for the wind

knowing in Spring life will come & find them

My Photo Transformed

Fall’s Paintbrushes

The wheels of cars in traffic toss leaves around
nearly soundless but my ear picks up the dryness
of Fall rustling in the wind that mimics the sound
of confetti stained with the palest of golden yellow
or burnished bronze with brilliant crimson reds

all falling, swirling down on asphalt oil stained
that now becomes a veritable canvas lit stage
Nature’s wonder captivating me, mesmerized, awed

bringing my eyes to look skyward to them and I see
tall narrow canopies of trees appearing to be dipped
in the colors of a painter’s palette and a melee
of colorful drips descend from the branches aflutter
and all traffic noise becomes mute and disappears

Late Summer Blackberries

Tasty morsels of the nibbling kind
entice the deer on a back country road
as she turns to see me more clearly
I notice she favors one of her legs

but it’s part of living on the edge
of our complex society verging on hers
where jumping o’er recently logged trees
a clear cut leaving a swath of land bare

is the price she pays to enjoy nibbling
on these berries that are lacking of water
as there is naught but dust and no rain
but no matter as she enjoys their being

just close enough for her to enjoy them
as I watch in wonder at her trust in me
to casually pick one than another
before moving back into the foliage
to disappear from my sight

Glittering Spider Webs

The mornings now are chilled and brisk
dew heavy on lawns and gardens
droplets of water glittering, sparkling
upon spider webs left until the sun
rises upon the horizon and the web
once more catches insects in it’s net

but more note worthy is what will ensue
as the days grow shorter and nightfall
longer announcing a change in Seasons
an introduction to the vibrancy of color

as foliage begins to die but not fade
in each sepia, amber, russet and scarlet
leaf that clings to it’s beginnings
before letting go to settle into sleep
anticipating Spring to begin once again

The Mystery of Words

There can be a tempest within my soul
on days where I’m unable to see the light
from a sun that is surely bathing me
in the heated glow of its’ rays

yet there are those days when the rays
of brilliance from that same sun radiate
through me and fill the day with bird song

song that touches every living creature’s
being with two legs to four legs to none
for even the tree feels the vibrations
in trunks, branches and fluttering leaves

leaving me in awe of it all, of the mystery
of the unnoticed brilliance of communication
the musical enhanced scores all around us

those are the days I again recall the words
whose magic enables me to speak from my heart
where the wordsmith rises again within my soul
a mystery e’er but the ocean tempest is stilled
