“The Spritely Muse”

words that tumbled ’round
her head as a child
still do

making mischief like tiny sprites
trading a wooded glade
to tease her hence

a whirlwind of cacophony
flickering, not staying still
try as she might
to pin them down

like dust these letters sneak
into every tight corner
of every room

only the rooms are within
her head with dull eyes
the corners misshapen
dark and foreboding

each letter playing tag
‘you’re it!’
as she feels a tingling
a light touch

as they frantically
try to meld again
and again

to ignite a spark
bursting brightly
into poetic imagery
brilliant

but as her head pivots
she only glimpses
she is not keen enough
as swiftly
they
disappear

  1. Wow, beautifully written, Renee, so vibrant. In your poem you brilliantly describe the process of writing, where letters have a life of its own, where we find difficulties to catch them before they disappear.

      1. Thank you, Renee. Yes, I am well, but the increasing oppression and repression from Spain’s central government are not easy for us in Catalonia. I never thought the Spanish police would act so brutally during our self-organised referendum on independence of October 1 last year. I never thought half of our democratically elected government would be imprisoned or exiled for just defending our right to vote. I never thought the Francoist dictatorial traits would resurrect in what I considered a fairly democratic country. But how wrong I was! Spain is becoming a more authoritarian regime day by day. We have to keep on resisting and occupying the streets non-violently. Non-violent civil resistance movements are key everywhere in the world to fight injustice. Thank god there’s Erica Chenoweth. I so love her research and reasoning!

  2. This lovely Renee.. I often wander back within my mind to the time I was a child.. I think many of us still hold that mischievous spirit and playfulness within.. And I love finding my inner child..

Loved your poem Renee.. I trust all is well, and you are again finding that Sprite within as you set yourself free to explore your Inner child again dear Renee..
Sending LOVE and well wishes dear friend.. ❤

  3. It’s interesting how those of us drawn to writing – indeed, those of us who can do else But to write – possess a sort of affinity with words, a love for them, even. And words conjure images, at least for me. I also have a free-floating stock of images rambling around as well (!!), and it’s when the images and words come together that there is a sort of alchemy that happens.

I love where your writing is taking you, these days. Love the image as well. Be well! Aloha ❤
