You wait beneath
drought parched land
he stiffens
as bent curved tree
detail memory fades
once sharp pinpoint light
emanated by moonbeams
he sees my feet as yours
your face I see in a mirror
the years bring you close
as you wait

This was posted for Jamie Dede’s Wed Prompt at https://jamiededes.com/2016/11/16/for-mrs-whitman-a-poem. I am not sure if my piece hits the mark of her prompt as she talks about the writing of a fond memory and juxtaposition. For me that happened recently when I visited dad and even with dementia he saw the likeness between my feet and mom’s (now passed away) and was touched. Even with my aging I find mother in my features, especially my eyes and expressions, and know that youth is always there. If you would like to participate in her Wed prompt and look for them weekly please pay her a visit and enter your poem in Linky.

Thank You Sue! I did this for Jamie’s Wed prompt on her site. I am home from CA and recovering from severe cold/allergy. As CA has been in a 3yr drought the air quality is very poor and dry. Nothing like the CA of my youth.

No worries. Temperature change and unclean air did it but now I’m home all will be right again. xoxo

Nice. The prompt is really meant to be a jumping off point. Can be honered even by a threat. I’ve had a similar experience to this and appreciate what you are say. Must be hard to see your dad in decline. Life! Well done. Am proud of you.

Thank You! Dad is actually living longer due to my sister’s taking care of him. She works all the time and has someone come in a few times a week to take him out walking. He never took a vitamin in his life until she came to live with him and now…well, he does but doesn’t like it. He has dementia and has good and bad days but I feel is doing better than he would have if she had not stepped up to the plate. I help where I can.
