Rose Colored Glasses

do you look at me through
rose colored glasses
waiting for the
clouds to part in
a display of sunshine

or do you wait cautiously
for the dust to settle
as i pick up the pieces
that fall without
ceremony to your feet

knowing that life cannot
be only black & white
for it is only after
storms the rainbows appear
& love is the tie that binds

Lavender & Whippoorwills

2005_LAVENDER__HOLLYHOCKS

nasturtiums growing
in hollyhock fields
smelling of lavender
& blue whippoorwills

whose song bids me
follow the spirit
of you
entwined as we are
in consummate truth

i see you dancing
beneath the elm tree
with boughs your
dance partner
forever & free

as you slip transparent
from my view
the music plays softly
as it is never adieu

from the lemon bush
filtering meringue
soft dreams
to the orange orchard
citrus scenes

i knew you loved me
before i became a whisper
& held me near
before the dance…
taste of cinnamon cinders

nasturtiums growing
in hollyhock fields
smelling of lavender
& blue whippoorwills

The Realist & Angels

angels-4
Google Image

i am a realist by nature
looking at my world
not through
rose-colored
glasses
but glass tempered
clear and hard
as the surface
of smooth steel beams

yet believing in angels
surrounding me
in my quest to seek
all that is
spiritual
feeling their presence
just beneath
the surface
as in a languid pool
of water

reality may keep
my being anchored to
the unsettling nature
of human beings in life
but my soul takes
flight
with my spirit
on an ever rising
tide of angels
and safe passage

Bath Times Three

growing up i found myself
in the tub…at the back
with sis and little brother
in front and i often

wondered…but why the fuss
with mom trying to wash us
all arms and legs and did
we really get clean but

after all, I mean, really
i was so glad when mom
finally decided i was too
big for the space i

was in and subtracted me
from the equation of
bath time times three and
i wondered why forever

until i had kids of my own
and it is so much easier
to have one bath for three
instead of a balancing act

of one, two, three and the
evening finds space for
alone time when they dream
to wonder why all the fuss
