2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 4,300 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 7 years to get that many views.

Believing Is

strength eludes you but look to the mountains
with their snow-capped pinnacles making way
to thundering, glorious waterfalls
AND BELIEVE!

your path is laden with obstacles but look at the
river with its’ mighty rapids and swift current
making its’ journey to the ocean and beyond
AND BELIEVE!

there is a burden heavy in your heart but feel
your soul take flight with the birds of the sky,
the dragonflies of the fields where they are free
AND BELIEVE!

believe that you can climb mountains and be strong
believe you can run with the river and know your path clear
believe you can fly with wings and feel your heart soar
BELIEVE!

I’ve been baking the last couple of days and I can sure tell how unorganized I am at times. I found this piece that I actually wrote for a co-worker of mine who was battling cancer at the time and has since passed away. What it was doing amongst my recipes is anyone’s guess but now I’ve found it thought it should be posted. This is for Mila, who is now one of the angels.

Spirits Remaining

alive and vibrant in their spirits
one moment all smiles and the next
gone leaving us wondering why
looking for answers to bring light
for their smiles and spirits bright

wondrous creatures in their spirits
teaching life lessons in the moment
imparting words of wisdom to us
leaving us to look for the light
for their smiles and spirits bright

amazing we had them amongst us
to give all the love that they had
now angels watching ‘oer families
brilliantly shining radiant light
spirits remaining shining ever bright

I have thought the past few days if I should write something for these souls taken from life and from families in such tragic events for it is difficult even for so many of us who do not know, and yet we do, these people who were caught up in another’s troubled life, only to become part of it in the end.  I can relate as a mother, grandmother and one who loves to teach and see others learn.  These are but a smattering of my thoughts as my heart goes out to those in Connecticut.

When Wildflowers Grew

Field of Wildflowers

he took a week off
to bury her
when wildflowers
grew as tall
as prairie grasses

bereavement they say
is for tomorrow
work pays bills
puts food on tables
another day comes

he will remember
to come to her there
to sit awhile among
the fragrant wildflowers
as she lays resting

time dissipates like
dew drops gone with the
coming of the sun
he is busy trying to
live another life

who will visit her now
who will sit with her
where wildflowers
always are blooming
forever in her care

now he’s gone and
she’s alone beneath
frozen soil on her
mountainside where
only a stone remains

Bell and Kettle

Ringing the Bell

I normally do not give change this time of year to the Salvation Army as there are kettles and bell ringers in front of every store but on a cold rainy day a woman in a wheelchair, bundled and with a stocking cap on, caught my eye. She was in earnest about someone, anyone giving money to drop with a clanking noise at the bottom of the kettle. Everyone, including myself, hurried into the store to get out of the rain and although she was under a bit of store awning she wasn’t the least bit concerned about the weather. On the way out I broke my habit of not putting change in the kettle and this time did. She smiled and gave me a “Merry Christmas!” and what could be better than that.

Song of Lilacs

Purple Lilac

rain comes down in
torrential rivulets
as wind buffets
the house

a reminder that the
smell of lilacs
carried on spring
breezes

will remain a distant
song carrying me
to the other side of
  stormy seas

Tiny Decorations

rainy fall day

Goggle Image

month of January i stand
listening to raindrops
hitting the pavement as
i wait for the rail
to arrive…waiting

i see a tree across
the street a smattering
of leaves left
hanging on like tiny
decorations

blown by the wind and
rain i can almost
hear their symphony a
musical awakening
calling my name

I am going to try and write something about each month from a site I follow. Lady Nimue has a Months of The Year Writing Prompt that invites those who would like , to write something about each month of the year. You can find information regarding it at http://ladynimue.wordpress.com.  This, or course, is for the month of January. For those of you who have already read the post excuse the change to the correct month.
