Flying Free

she refuses to succumb
to pain anchored
inside her body like
a ship anchored to
the dockside

pulling her this way
that, up and down,
unreasonable
especially at night
pulling aside
sleepy eyes

no respect for her
life..nagging at the
dark recesses inside
forbidden corners
of her mind
waiting

she waits too for a
moment of breathe
a break in the stillness
holding her prisoner
iron bars to
bind

opens up the window
quiet now…pain will
not hear her as she
enters into the
darkness to
aspire

sleep will come and
soon she will take
flight in dreams
leaving pain and
the world
behind

  1. I know this feeling all too well Renee. You’ve captured it all here with this. Sometimes sleep is the only escape from pain, even if it is only for a while.
    Very deep and, emotional write.

    1. Thank you Sue! I have a young man mowing and weed eating for me now but I still have to weed the gardens and they are large so I just do a little at a time. I am trying my best to get them done as when it does get warmer the pesky things won’t grow quite so tall.

  3. So many people are in this very hard situation. In spite of suffering from fibromyalgia..I do manage to sleep fairly well most nights. The quiet and stillness of night and trying to sleep make pain just that more noticeable. I wish you well, Renee.

    1. I have had Fibromyalgia since I was a teen but now in recent years have Rheumatoid Arthritis so that seems to be a double whammy. But I have a high threshold so takes alot to get me down. I simply refuse to give in. I wish you well, also. Thank You!
