Walking amidst
discarded toys
much-loved dolls
waiting
longing
to be held again
rusted bicycles
wooden soldiers
metal cars
among old furniture
sofas, chairs,
tables, sideboards
mysterious objects
containers
holding memories of
days in
someone’s
life
photos dated nineteen
something
black and white
tin type sepia tones
some smiling
others solemn
captured within
gilded
frames
old crates labeled
fresh milk
brass and glass
door knobs that
held open
doors
another era
knick knacks
figurines
walking amidst
second-hand treasures
valued as
antiques to
collectors but to
many a walk
through history a
glimpse into
the past

Oh so true!! The stories “antiques” could share … fortunate for the appreciated items that are handed down through the generations and cared for as lovingly … and for the items discovered by others and given a new life!
Very nice, Renee!

loved that walk in antique market, i love such things. they make one wonder about the hands that held that thing.
or, in a movie in that the heroine told hero that she hated antiques because she always felt that a dead man was grabbing it 🙂

Thank You Trisha! I went looking yesterday in my favorite store and found another very old ink well! A friend gave me the 1st one which is a reproduction and now I’ve got a very real old one and it is wonderful. I’ve not see that movie but I suppose in real life it is as though some items are meant to be bought and some not. 🙂

that was a movie casting the hero, heroine of “my big fat greek wedding”, its name if i am not wrong is “i hate valentine days”.
🙂 she looked terrific when she explained why she hated antiques, the expression on the faces of the listeners were hilarious.
I dont possess one but would just love to have a few

I love this glimpse into the past. I too am fascinated by those turn of the century sepia photos. Another place, another time. Loved your poem! Thanks for linking to Poets United.

Oh, the unknown and untold history in old photographs. They actually do ‘try’ to speak, don’t they?
You’re like me, I love antiques and history.
