Above the sound of traffic, drifting
over the brick walled enclosure by
Target parking, erupts the night
cries of the Peacock echoing a
call to all the others roosted in
tall trees silhouetting against the
dark night sky in the ‘burbs
Somewhere among asphalt and
concrete, city lights lining streets
with houses keeping families is
heard the melodies of peepers in
ponds safely hidden as crickets are
the string section of a band
beneath Mariachi music

Evocative night sounds, Renee. The peacock cry is so exotic – amazing to find it in this context.

I wouldn’t have thought so either but right smack in the middle of the city is a farm that raises them. Go figure.

Loved your description of the peacocks, I did not realize they go into trees. They are such big birds, it is a wonder they can even fly. There is nothing silent about the night and darkness if one is looking for a restful state after dark. The dark, the night, is supposed to be a retreat, while so much for that!
