Eyes of the Soul

Try seeing with the eyes of your soul to
imagine life upside down, inside out, a
life where animals that walk the earth
had wings to fly instead and the birds of
the air had legs to walk on the earth,
what would life be like then…
Phenomenal

Cats, dogs, horses,elephants with wings
to fly high above to play with the clouds
to venture to mountain tops covered with
snow, to see running rivers swift, lakes and
oceans to delight, confounding the senses
what would life be like then…
Mesmerizing

Birds transformed into creatures with legs
walking in fields of flowers, climbing to the
tops of mountains, traveling to the depths of
valleys, amazed at the smallest of creatures,
curling up to sleep in hay or on a bed
what would life be like then…
Serendipitous

Leave the Earth Behind

Take flight on Eagle’s wings
soaring spectacular uplifted
on currents of wind to
heights atop mountains,
river currents swift
Leave the earth behind

Create song as Chickadees,
Mockingbirds and Sparrows do
melodious notes of harmony
invisible ties binding together
choruses blending
Leave the earth behind

Grow within and without amongst
colors vibrant of Tulips, Daffodils,
Hyacinths, Pansies, Sweet Williams,
Marigolds, Pinks and Roses a
spectrum of hues vast, timeless
Leave the earth behind

Soak up the sun and raindrops
with the fruit trees budding
prolific nurturing fruit cocooned,
the heather, azaleas,
rhododendrons blooming
Leave the earth behind you

Becoming one with the earth

Witnesses

The heavens crying tears of grief displaying
emotions of thousands who traveled here,
spectators craving like vultures to see the torture,
cruelty of the execution of innocent men, though
one man is the star attraction, this man speaking
heresy to some, truth to others

The skies light up with sudden strikes of lightning
illuminating the ground on which planted they are
like trees without branches except arms, legs
lacking the green of leaves save the crown of thorns
on one, without the sap that runs albeit the blood
through different veins uprooted

The day turned night darkest, no sun shining,
the wind carrying the weeping of a few women closest
not able to believe nor understand that life would come
again to all when the tomb, stone rolled away, they
would witness no body within and carry away with
them the joyous news there is life

All She Owns

Walking the streets with shuffling
footsteps carrying all she owns
not mindful of people staring
not caring that life stole
family, a life, a home

Sitting on a bench back bending
eyes closed in the noon day sun
faceless among passersby
resembling a live statue
created by all and none

Sleeping by the wall of a bus stop
disappearing in layers of clothes
all that she has in the world
now she is nameless alone
living a life not chosen

Bicycle Years

Pedaling through the years on bikes
with big wheels, little, wheels,
one, two and three wheels, with
large spokes, small spokes and
spokes all in between a
balancing act to be daring

Pedaling through the years on bikes
attempting to mount the tall ones
riding tandem with someone behind
you, maybe more than one to
give you balance or make
more work for you driving

Pedaling through the years on bikes
in dresses, suits, now pants and
shorts that stretch to suit you, a
helmet much later protecting
your head, breaks on the bars
in order to help stop you

Pedaling through the years on bikes
sitting upright enjoying the ride
now means bending forward for
aerodynamics going faster or
reclining close to the street to
exercise your point of view

Bright Eyes

Pleasantries noted, hugs exchanged
with smiles given all around
tempting bright eyes telling me
all about experiences teenagers
have where all I can say is
“Too much information”

The Morning

Answers to questions queried a
thousand times ten infinitely
more difficult coming back in
emptiness dry as a corn husk
without the embodiment of
the kernels within

She just wanted the pain to be
wrapped in softness of a
satin robe pushing away the
unknown as in darkest night
moonless permeating her
skin, invading her mind

Always the same response came
whenever she faced them to
wait until the morning for rays
of light unveiling all hidden but
inside she knew that the
morning might never come

Something More

Fresh smell of newly mown grass still
wet with recent rain leaving drops of
water glistening in the afternoon
with May flies hovering about not
yet the month of May, the deep
green of the grass offering up
renewal and something more
