***ABOUT RENEE***

Dragonfly

I am a daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and seeker of Spiritual Peace and Soul Filled Freedom. I have eclectic beliefs that encompass many faiths and believe Nature to be the basis of everything that is and that everything that is is also a part of Nature.

I have been writing since a young woman and have five adult children, 13 grandchildren and I now have eight great grandchildren and counting. Thankfully, I have only to love them and let them go.

My writing is based on my life’s experience and my observation of life. I believe that without life observed there would be nothing on which to base any writing at all.  For even in using ones’ own imagination I believe that  most things written are steeped in experience of which life teaches us endless lessons and in which countless doors open to make new discoveries.

I write poetry and short stories. They say everyone has at least one book in them. I probably am one of those and yet technology has now millions of hopefuls in the running.  So, I will probably always be writing a book that will simply be because I enjoy doing so.  Life was given back to me in April of 2015 after emergent open heart surgery.  I am now retired and the journey continues on the same, yet different path.

I consider myself to be gifted with the ability to create art and to write…a Wordsmith,  if you will. Life is a continuing journey that is ever changing, ever becoming and is gifted to me.  My path will take me where it goes without ever reaching any true destination.  For it will take a lifetime to ‘become’.    I hope you enjoy my site as much as I am enjoying bringing my writing and artistic endeavors to you.

  1. Thank you Noel for the thoughtful gesture but I no longer participate in doing awards. Nearly seven years after beginning my site and two years after my heart surgery I have slowed down quite a bit. But there are many more writers that would accept it, I am sure. You deserve the award for your beautiful writing. I am enjoying reading it and I wish you well.

  2. This is a lovely blog. I see you are a complete artist-writer with great experience. Thank you for stopping by my blog. By the way, are you of Catalan descent with your surname Espriu? Are you a distant relative of Catalonia’s great poet Salvador Espriu?

    1. Hello Marta,
I am surprised and happy to see your comment here. My father’s grandfather came from Catalonia and although I am not proof positive I do believe that, yes, we are distant relatives of Salvador Espriu. When my sister visited some years back she actually brought back some of his books and I can understand some but not all of his writing because it is the Spanish/French dialect that is spoken there. I was so pleased to know we are probably related as the surname Espriu is rare in most of the world today. I see you teach English and German and how wonderful is that. Teaching is certainly in my own family and an admirable profession in which to be. I am many different ethnicities, Marta, but have embraced them all and am always pleased to know that I am diverse in all that I do. Thank you again for stopping by and you are the very first that has asked me about my surname and the poet Salvador Espriu. Hope you are well and so pleased to meet you.

      1. Thank you for your extensive response, Renee. I just need to correct you in one point: Salvador Espriu wrote in his mother tongue, Catalan, which is also mine. This is no dialect as compared to Spanish/French but the original language of Catalonia derived from Latin such as the other Romance or Romanic languages. In this sense we can call them Latin dialects and Catalan, as you say, is half way in between Spanish and French (source: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romance_languages). Catalan literature is also very rich and Salvador Espriu happens to be one of my favorite poets. It is wonderful that our connection has brought you back to your ancestors. BTW, where do you live?

      2. I know it is the language of Catalan but thought it was a mix of the two languages which would make it a dialect so I apologize for my misunderstanding. I did not realize it was derived from Latin. I love languages so now I know more about this one from your response here. I was raised in California but presently live in Washington State in the US. I will look up more in Wikipedia on the Catalan language. I seemed to understand some of it but that it is somewhere in between the two languages would explain why I do understand some of it….so not a mix but somewhere in between. Makes sense. My sister upon her trip many years ago now decided to research more on the surname that is ours’ and came across the poet Salvador Espriu and brought back some of his books. I was quite pleased to know that there was a writer/a distant relative of our family and that many years later it is what I love to do…and my art. Yes, Catalan I would believe to be one of the Romance languages most certainly. Again, thank you for asking for you are the first one to do so and it pleased me immensely. I was raised in the Catholic Church and services when I was a girl still had a lot of Latin in them and too my father does speak Spanish as well as English. So perhaps my eye sees some of this and why I can understand some of the language in which Salvador wrote. Beautiful indeed. Take care.

      3. Dear Renee, thank you again for this new extensive response. I am so glad you feel so pleased about my asking, but almost any Catalan person would have done the same. I am truly delighted to have contacted you and will continue to follow your blog. You too take care.

  4. Ah, so much here to see and read! I’m impressed, AND I learned a bit about Renee Espriu. But of course, it’s there in all the work, only to be accepted, and that’s where the treasure lies.

Thanks for pointing the way, Bob

  5. It is lovely to read your bio here and get to know you a bit better, Renee. You have come a long way and are certainly gifted with creative abilities. Agree that life is a continuing journey. There will be ups and downs in life, and each moment in life is how we make of it – which you have done so courageously in 2015. Like you, I like writing and am currently working on my first book. As I was writing my first draft, I realised I had a lot of things to say, so much so that I think, and hope, to write more than one book. Hope you keep writing and looking forward to vising your blog again 🙂
